LINLEY and Holland & Holland help

I was fortunate enough to find and locate the only left hand drive LINLEY Edition ever made and have spent the last 15 months completely refurbishing it from top to bottom. The entire interior was removed, the headlining was taken to a tanner, cleaned and refurbished and the engine was removed and completely rebuilt. The only thing left to do is repaint, which will be done in summer of 2018.I was able to get the built sheets for the LINLEY from Landrover SV.

I also bought a 2000 H&H Edition three years ago and rebuilt that. I spent the past3 years searching for the extras that came with it and to date I have the rear seat tables, dog guard, the original picnic table kit along with the pouch the legs came with. Most important of all, I was incredibly lucky to have found both leather travel bags that came with it. One was bought online and another by fluke elsewhere.

I am trying to find a Press Pack for the LINLEY and also a sales brochure that was used in showrooms for the H&H but have been unable to locate either. I would also like to find the dark brown cargo liner that came with the H&H Edition.

Basically, I am looking for anything that complements either of these vehicles. If you have anything and are interested in parting with them please send me a message.

Thanks

James

I’m attaching a link to another forum where I kept readers updated on the restoration of the LINLEY, along with photos.

It won’t show properly until after painting. I’m hoping that my budget will allow me to have six coats of paint applied with a sanding between each application with the aim of having the mirror finish Black that the original vehicle had. Some paint shops I’ve researched for the job have told me that with modern painting techniques that the sanding between coats would not be necessary to create the desired effect. I’m unsure and open to forum members inputs on the subject.

heres the link....

Does anyone even make a car this refined and classy anymore?

Plenty. The P38 is a very nice car to drive (and I imagine a H&H even more so), but it doesn't come close in refinement to the more modern high-end cars.

Lovely car OP!

Between the two I think that the H&H is a better looking vehicle both inside and out.

The LINLEY could be mistaken for a Westminster on the outside except for the two dual tip stainless steel exhausts, the shadow chrome wheels and the LINLEY badge.

The H&H is very unique with the color, two tone wheels and unique badge. On the inside the wood choice of Walnut, the chocolate brown leather and options available with it make it a beautiful vehicle. It typifies what Landrover meant when they designed the Range Rover. It’s a country estate vehicle designed to look well on the farm or in the city.

The LINLEYs value is obviously in its rarity. Viscount Linley did a great job with his idea of making the vehicle a luxury item. Polished glass all around and multiple coats of paint with standings between each coating made the vehicle sparkle. Even today, after years of neglect, the paintwork on the side panels of the vehicle will shine up with a light buffing. The leather roof lining and boot lid cover inside look nice, but not something I would have on a vehicle. The steering wheel with stainless steel inserts are a nice throwback to the 50s and really is the crown jewel of the vehicle. I sent mine to a specialist in Texas to have it refurbished and they used the original steel inserts and banding to make it look better than new.

I am looking forward to having the paint done so that I can see the vehicle in person as it was originally designed to look like.

I think if you put both side by side and asked Landrover owners which looks better, the LINLEY or the H&H, most would pick the H&H.

Oh no, I don't mean when driving, I mean in design and style. The latest Range Rovers look aggressive and thuggish on the outside, while the interiors appear to be some sort of gamer's idea of paradise. The OP's car has a nice understated look, especially inside, as if it doesn't really care about trying to impress anyone. There doesn't seem to be anything like that anymore.

LINLEY has finally be completed. Paint job finished and she’s ready for show.
The keen eyes amongst you may notice a few things I added to her that was not LINLEY spec but I believe makes her look neater and more sleek.
Firstly, I used centre caps from the HSE Sport (#LR094547) which are black with Land Rover in a silver logo instead of the silver ones with Green Land Rover logo.
Secondly, I replaced the front and rear Land Rover emblems with the HSE Sport Black emblems to match the paintwork and finally I had the body trim moldings painted to match the smooth gloss black finish of the bumpers instead of the standard black rubber look that was on the originals. I am going to get a ceramic coat put on it In May.
I left the mud flaps off for the time being to see if she looks more “civilized” without them. Haven’t made my mind up on that yet. The amber turn signal on the front body panel is not the correct one, the original was the clear ones, and this was put on in error at the paint shop (how this happened is beyond me because I didn’t bring it in with an orange turn signal) but since this photo was taken the correct lens has been put on it.
But she’s done and that’s almost 2 years work completed on her. Everything works and almost every part has been replaced on it. I’d be brazen enough to say that she is as good as new. The main things I’m proud of on her is that the air suspension works like new, the front heated seats work, the heated windshield works, there is no book symbol on the HEVAC Control, there are no faults in the vehicle, I’ve a brand new set of keys including FOBs and a valet key as I replaced the sticking drivers door handle and ignition key barrel plus the navigation system works and I have a full set of North American navigation CDs along with the Canadian set. The black lambs wool front and rear rugs are also still with the vehicle. An original mint condition LINLEY Press Pack that was only given out in limited numbers is also included with the vehicle.
I was also able to get a copy of the build sheets for this vehicle which included a list of all the special order parts.
About to turn my attention to the H&H and put her back on bags and the same with the Westminster....
I’ll post better staged photos of her after the ceramic work as the two I’ve attached here do not really do her justice but I wanted to show her as soon as she was complete.

The more I look at these really nice P38's the more I like them and wouldn't mind owning one. Its interesting because looking around the prices seem to be on the up lately... There are some real rotten examples out there that are dirt cheap, but anything nice is making good money now.

The prices will possibly start rising in the next year or two as the replacement for the L402 is due. That will deflate the L402 and the L322 but lift the P38's and the classics.

That's what I am hoping! My late L322 has dropped down to the £10k mark now and I am reluctant to buy an L405 until the prices drop. The prices have certainly started to soften for the pre 2018 facelift cars already but I may as well hold on and try to get a 2018 facelift if I can when they drop

I am thinking of selling my L322's now and buying a later one after the drop. The issue I have is the the one I want to keep currently has 78k on the clock. The downside is it isn't a 4.4TDV8

My L322 is the very last 3.6TDV8 with the 2010 facelift. 100k miles now though so i know i wont get more than £10k. My Dad has a 62 plate 4.4 Westminister with only 40k miles and I think he has come to the same decision as me, now is not the time to jump to an L405

My L322 of choice has 78k on it with upgraged led lights and a body kit. Looking at prices it is probably around the £9k mark which is more than I paid

Now isn't the time to buy an L405 those cars are about to take a thumping and that will be the time to buy IMHO. but L322's will also take a hit so am thinking of offloading before they do.
