P*ss off, your tube skills are sickeningly good.
dirtydiesel
Oooh G12... mmmmm quality veteran leccy winchy stuff. Is it 'improved'? Got a useful scource for the OE bearings fitted by Uncle David Wondered if you'd spot it, posted specially for you I don't know if it's "improved", it's been under the bench for about 4 years. P*ss off, your tube skills are sickeningly good. I'd normally agree but i've just bought a new JMR draw bender, and after 12 plus years on a center push bender using the draw bender is like haveing to learn how to walk again. honitonhobbit
A piece of history that winch... Grease routing needs modifying and the bearings up grading but a lovely thing all in all
dirtyninety
I'd normally agree but i've just bought a new JMR draw bender, and after 12 plus years on a center push bender using the draw bender is like haveing to learn how to walk again. I have a ProTools 105 bender, working out two bends after one another is head wrenching. bends from 3.5ish inches (i have a 7inch clr die) to the left of where i need the middle of the bend to be.. measure from one end so everything ends up correct blah blah... I first made some very wonky hoops! also, homebrew hydro conversion is on my to do list!!
dirtydiesel
Managed to get a few hours back on the jeep, I've bent up a frame for the transmission tunnel out of 25mm electrical conduit, Hopefully i'll find time to skin it all in this week, by then hopefully i should have everything to finish the steering off. mickeyw
Now I like that - a real neat method of construction. Far better looking than angle iron with flat sheets fitted to it. Things always look better with nice curves
Cynic-al
I've got a question about one of your tools, I've never seen one like it before. Whats the Grey and Blue thing? I feel it's something amazing that I'm missing out on?

I feel it's something amazing that I'm missing out on? I think that may be something his Mrs has left in the Jeep .... I tripped over one in the kitchen the other day, nearly bloomin' finished me off, no idea what they are for but they are bloody dangerous! Keep clear of them for your own safety. Daan
Pushing boundaries as usual. That device I have come across before, maybe Dan can give us some pointers as to how to use it. Daan
Soren Frimodt
Funny thing actually, the grey item in question, I have seen something very similar albeit considerable larger and shaped like a giant T. As I recall, it was a wooden construction. It was apparently used for transport of women!? They flew over the rooftops on these things.. It supersedes the hacksaw and flat file in your engineer's tool setNow I know why it took sooooo long to bobtail your rangy.
Cynic-al
Hacksaw?! I wish! I used a junior blade with a bit of tape around the end!!! No wonder theres an energy crisis if your using powered tools?!?!
dirtydiesel
I got the top of the tunnel, and the awkward side panelled in, the top is 1.6mm as it's likley to get stood on and the sides are 1mm. they are all fully welded in as i've deliberatly made the tunnel big enough to work on everything from underneith. Bowie69
Top work, have a similar job to do soon, so great to see another take on things, better than the old angle/box + ali sheets for sure.
mickeyw
Very professional looking
dirtydiesel
Not sure about professional looking! "professionals" would probably rill the panels for stiffness and have them removable. I aim to make something that looks "factory" to the casual observer, Once its finished seam sealed and repainted with the body it should disappear. I have got the steering arms back from the first stage of machining, they are massive! Pics tomorrow.

dirtydiesel
Thanks for the props guys, (really not a masterpiece though). Got the other side of the tunnel in. Back to work on the steering, The arms are 30mm thick en8b, the kingpins are en24t they are center drilled right through as a grease path to lubricate the swivel bearings. I still have to drill the tapers for the track rod ends, and maybe take a little weight out of them somewhere!
dirtydiesel
I've been up to milners today and come away with a pair of 14" 2.0 air shocks, I'm not sure whether ultimately I'll use them as having spring rate and ride height inexorably linked can be a pain. But they will do to build it on, if they don't work out they are the same closed length as14" 2.0 coilovers. Managed to squeeze a few hours in the workshop tonight. I've made the front panel tube hoop and mounted the front grill off it, added a center check strap point and started cycling the suspension to find a home for the panhard rod This is full bump, and proved that mk1 panard rod mounting won't work, as the diff pan is where the chassis end of the panhard wanted to be. mick the digger!
Great to see it coming along!! Ill be watching with interest how you get on with the air shocks as I'd say ill go that way with a new build. Incidentally how much are 2.0's from Milner in 14" flavour? dirtydiesel
I've had some good experiances with air shocks on light triallers, on heavier stuff they are a bit of a balancing act. They are £160+vat
mick the digger!
Im hopeing to stay fairly light. Any input on mounting angles, I've read there supposed to act like rams and try to tip a car over if there mounted vertically. In 5-10 deg at the top and layed back 10-15 on the fronts seems to stick in my mind.
dirtydiesel
They can unload a little on sideslopes but i don't think it'd be enough to roll you. I am hoping to be able to mount them dead in line with kpi (8°) and caster (10°) to keep the loads directly on the swivel bearings.

Those steering arms are probably the only thing that survives a nuclear attack, they bend light! which balljoints are you using?
