  1. One mans Tat is another mans gold, I was there with MickeyW and we found some obscure items that Mickey needed that most people would have classed as tat and not bothered to bring to a sale. And of course Ross handed over my boat anchor he had been looking after for me It was a good day
  2. Perhaps the idea is that you don't make a cover panel? The part that you have removed can be put back in place and held in place by the normal mounting bolts at one end and the cover plate for the round hole at the other end? Not an idea I like but perhaps that is the intention?
  3. Reflexes get slower as the years roll on Richard ........
  4. Basically Lewis it's a whole lot of people going 'yeah but.... what if I.... ' in denial of the fact that an ID for £900 is realistically not going to be used for someone building a 110 from all brand new parts. I think we all have a good idea what the real use would be. It's also quite amusing to know that at least two police officers have been following the thread.
  5. I believe that if you have properly linked brakes you can chuck another tonne on that limit. It's not so much what can a 110 pull but more a case of what can it safely stop.
  6. Rich, when Mo said 'on the ambulance' he means the NHS ambulance he uses for work. So the choice of ground stake or not has been made for him by his employer. I would imagine (but could be wrong) that a large organisation has done their research. I wouldn't mind betting that they make it a disciplinary offence for you to plug anything other than the official items in that inverter.
  7. I'm betting that relates to the insulation classes of the equipment you use with it. I'd expect the NHS to have had their vehicles equipped correctly.
  8. So on a related note how do portable generators deal with the earth wiring? Not trying to derail this thread, I just think it's almost the same issue so may help with answering the question.
  9. Sometimes the old ways aren't the best, photoshopping the number plate to hide part of it would work better than taping over when it's a number plate with raised numbers! Keep your eyes open for PMB 353B appearing on a 90 near you soon ....
  10. So it's an R380 only fix then Ed? Or are there cross drilled input gears with short splines as well as the ones with longer splines?
  11. Pull your existing input gear out through the inspection/pto cover on the LT230 and make sure there is an unworn area on the splines (there will be on an R380 but I'm not sure on an LT77). If there is then you can go the cross drilled route, if not then it'll be time to change the gearbox output shaft. Pulling the gear to check the splines is really quick.
  12. I know of someone who did that with a wheel bearing and didn't get very far, I know it's slightly different but I think I'd only do it in an emergency tbh.
  13. Mainly because if Jeff drops it on his head whilst fitting it (which he probably will) there will be no more Jeff!
  14. It's the crank pulley that is the one where the aftermarket is better, oem has the flange/rim spot welded on, bearmach and possibly others have the pulley and rim cast as one piece.
  15. Just attaching the service bulletin for the original poster as it may be helpful for him L8424BU.pdf
  16. Lol, my words on removing the cover were slightly less polite considering I'd been told that had been replaced about 1000 miles before. The new style sprocket fits and you change the tension pulley for the lipless style as well, IIRC you also have to change the mounting stud for the tension set up and do a little chamfer on the hole.
  17. Sort of like very small safety goggles then Phil?
  18. No worries Les, you know far more about Land Rovers than I ever will .... I just happened to have spent too much time geeking out about 300 tdi timing kits when I first got mine. (which turned out to have the early kit the same as the OP's and lots of fluff)
  19. Les in the case of the original 300 kit there was no washer welded to crank sprocket, that was part of the fix that Land Rover did and at the same time they changed the tensioner to have no lip on the wheel. In the OP's picture you can see the tensioner pulley has the lip which means it's from an old timing kit and the crank pulley would not have had a washer.
  20. Not that I'm recommending running it without the guard, however with a straight die grinder and the arbor if a disc does decide to shatter you will be a lot less likely to be in the line of fire than if you were using an angle grinder.
  21. I think I'd personally still read the book Simon even though you have insiders so to speak.
  22. It does have the old kit fitted but it might also have been incorrectly tensioned. That would also make it ride forward and wear. As well as the modified tensioner and bottom pulley they also reduced the tension on the belt as part of 'the fix'
  23. Had exactly the same thing happen last year, I only spotted it from the rust on my eyeball but luckily the lady at our local walk in centre dug it out with a needle. Worse thing about it was the cream you had to put in your eye for the next week, gave a taste in your mouth that made you feel sick
  24. I had one of the Clarke rubber air hoses, lovely and flexible ..... but in a few years the rubber turned to a gooey mess and went pop in lots of places Bought this draper one to replace it http://www.bamfordtrading.com/products/38338-draper-38338-ah20m10-20m-airline-hose-(38)-10mm-inside-diameter.html large-ish bore for decent flow.
