  1. Mobil 1 is an excellent oil but all wrong for an LR V8. The Comma oil is more likely available local to you and will work fine. I use Mobil 1 in my other V8 (Chevy) but use 15W50. I use the synth there because it is making 508hp. Steve
  2. If you want the line of LEDs to give position you could line up a bank of read switches which will light LEDs as the magnet passes. Steve
  3. Glad to see you got your priorities right and took photos before offering assistance. Steve
  4. If you are going to use the cable then having it push a magnet beside a read switch will do the job. Screwfix window/door security switches are 99p each (made by Honeywell). Parts 24918 or 76045. Steve
  5. Never mind, you can do it all again tomorrow. Steve
  6. Has anyone mentioned Chevy V8 yet? Stay where you are, I'll get my own coat. Steve
  7. Did not find another calculator to do the metric/imperial switch. Had a play with the second calc above. You can put in your existing metric size but with it set to standard the diameter etc. readings are in inches. You can then play with the inputs of the 'new' tyre until you reach your required diameter in inches. In my case I used 305 75 15 to force a diameter of 33inches dead. It says my speedo will be 14.2% slow. EPC says my RRC has a 24 tooth drive gear so I imagine I will need to move at least two sizes but I have no idea how to calculate it. Have to go find some gears to try. Steve
  8. Clicking 'standard' or 'metric just changes the readout from inches to mm. There is nowhere you can select a tyre such as 33x12.5x15. Will have a Google, there must be an American site that does it. Steve
  9. How many different ratio/colours are there? I will have to go down this route having fitted 33" to my otherwise standard RRC auto running gear. Thanks Steve
  10. Have you got the correct pressure cap fitted and is it holding pressure? Is the header tank higher than other parts of the cooling system? Steve
  11. Sticking piston gets my vote. Take out the pads and work the pistons in and out several times. Whoever operates the pedal may even be able to feel which one is hardest to move. Steve
  12. I use whichever brand of PU sealant comes to hand. Over many years I have never though 'That was a bad move better buy xxxx next time'. Steve
  13. You may well have given the insurer every conceivable detail but if the vehicle is, by some interpretation of the law, in fact not legal for use on the road then your insurance, bar the minimum third party injury, will be null and void. Steve
  14. I think you will need to be a very resourceful man (read tight) to convert to manual for less than the cost (£150) of that auto box from the breakers. Steve
  15. Good call. Watched 'A plane is born' and they used a similar cupboard to store the GF matt and resin. Consisted of said cupboard with well fitting door and two 60watt light bulbs to produce the warmth. Steve
  16. As above. Will be heading off first thing Friday morning and coming back later in the day. Completely empty on way up. Return will depend on item to be brought back. Steve
  17. I will also wait for a grownups reply on this as I was advised to disconnect the alternator but the battery was not mentioned. Steve
  18. Unless your design requires it, I would avoid a sharp bend as this is where it will crack. If a nice radiused bend is possible then file/sand a radius on the edge of a piece of wood and use that to clamp it in the vice and bend it over the rounded edge of the wood. Steve
  19. I know nothing about electronics but for the traction control with GPS I would have thought the system would just assume the speed had remained constant from the last GPS calculation which others have said may be a relatively large gap. During this time a faster calculation could be taking place using the wheel speed sensors and appropriate power reductions taking place. Steve
  20. Have I missed a step in the process here? If the DVLA inspector deemed it needed an SVA then he/she must have had some idea which category it would fall into. If that was 'R' then they would have known you could not pass. Have you been back to them to ask which class to submit it in? Steve ETA Just been back and looked at the definitions in DVLA web site and am convinced Bishtail fits Radically altered vehicle. Quote DVLA web site. "The registration of radically altered vehicles covers vehicles which are substantially altered from their original specification, but which are not kit conversions. In these cases the vehicle components used from the original vehicle will be given a numerical value in order to retain the original registration mark. Allocating a vehicle registration mark The vehicle must score eight or more points to retain the original registration mark. If less than eight points are scored or a second-hand or modified chassis or altered monocoque bodyshell is used, an enhanced single vehicle approval (ESVA), single vehicle approval (SVA) or motorcycle single vehicle approval (MSVA) certificate will be required to register the vehicle. A 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated." I read from this that as the chassis is modified then it will get a Q registration (no big deal). It will have to go for SVA. Looking at the SVA book I can see nothing preventing it being presented as an amateur built vehicle. The definitions section (Page 7 chap. 9) says 'A vehicle constructed or assembled for the personal use of an individual and The construction/assembly or a substantial part of it was carried out by the individual and/or other persons acting on his behalf and The individual/other persons acting on his behalf during the period of construction/assembly did not have a business in which motor vehicles are normally constructed/assembled. ' I'm assuming Bish is not a motor manufacturer. Still looks possible to me. Steve
  21. I like that. Can see a modified fuse with an LED in the top coming out of the workshop soon. As a side note saw on a site somewhere fuses that light up when blown which I thought looked rather good. Steve
  22. Is this a DVLA inspection you are going for or an SVA test? Even more interested if it is DVLA as they can make a local decision as the whether you have to have an SVA. A case of 'talk the talk' to try and convince them that cutting 18" of the end of the chassis is not "Modifying" it. Best of luck either way. Steve
  23. What are the wire colours? If it helps my 1987 efi wiring is:- Red/Orange wire from fuse 5. This circuit also includes the dash lights which are wired through a dimmer. The dimmer is shown with a connection to earth so a fault in there could be your short. Also disconnecting the dimmer will also isolate all the dash and switch illumination. There are connectors for both the front and back looms so you could disconnect those and see if you can isolate the fault. Good hunting Steve

    RRC

Yes there is a sequence for the non ABS RRC. Will look it up this evening if nobody beats me to it. It involves bleeding two of the nipples at the same time. I do mine with an easy-bleed which puts air pressure and a bottle of fluid to the top of the master cylinder. You then just go round with your jam jar and pipe. Steve
