It’s all looking lovely - the seats frames are fantastic.

I really like the design engineering stuff - just SO expensive … I understand why, but the understanding doesn’t deepen my wallet 😂

Craddocks seem to be building a reputation for accepting orders and payments on things they don’t yet have in stock, and being poor at communicating, so you might need to be patient with that part of your order.

Me too regarding the wallet but sometimes the pain is less than having to buy again and go back in to fit something…

Thats not great to hear regarding JCs. I’m pretty sure everything said in stock but in this day and age means little. Was a reasonable size order as well…Time will tell.

Any other recommendations?

Some serious attention to detail and quality here... and then I see a Britpart box??? Say it ain't so! :o

Unfortunately what’s our choice 🤷🏻‍♂️. The two BP boxes are washer jet pumps. Other than the ridiculous price of genuine (that’s even if available) items like these seem mostly the same. Is there going to be much difference in their junk vs Bearmach etc ? How many different manufacturers of this stuff are there and how often are they the same piece?

I’m definitely open to suggestions.

I assumed you didn't have much choice :(

For washer pumps I'd raid junkyards or eBay junkyards, there's only so many designs of pump and I'd take a used genuine parts one from something like a Toyota over whatever Britpart throw in the box.

On my truck I replaced the weedy stock pump with a Disco/RR headlamp washer pump which is about 3x the size and has a real kick to it - useful if you've fitted better / higher flow washer jets.

Whilst I am happy to modify most things lol, little things like that I prefer plug and play. Since my 110 is a Truck Cab, the washer reservoir only has one pump and one hole. I ordered a reservoir which is the same shape/size with twin holes and now have a pump for each washer head (running the DDE twin jet twin head setup). Hopefully it will suffice. Did your pump just push in and fit the reservoir?

All my steering stalk switch controls are Lucas and if there is a good branded choice or genuine is reasonable I go for it.

Unfortunately most punters have voted with their wallets and determined the market 😕

On Suppliers - I used to use Britcar, but they’ve sadly ceased trading. I’ve used LRDirect a little in the past - and They seem to be emerging as a popular choice.

That said I’ve also been buying direct from Bearmach and that’s been decent service. It seems that even if the parts may be coming from the same factory as the BritPart ones … in general they have a better QC.

Despite all of the above though I think the whole thing has become a minefield.

I know someone who bought genuine cappings for a 90 from Land Rover, they were a fortune and the quality was shocking - they were twisted from welding in manufacture and a really poor fit.

On the flip side I bought a swivel kit from Brit Part that came with Timken Bearings and Corteco seals and was just brilliant.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyhow - back to your marvellous welding 🤩

duncan mansfield who owned britcar has sh*t on quite a few people in the last month, he is planning to resurface as wolfdale, i knew in may britcar was in trouble when they wanted me to pay upfront on a £300 order, i have known duncan for 28 years so i knew the writing was on the wall.

The LRDirect order went smoothly. They communicated quickly they did not have one of the parts in the brand I chose, and give you options. It was shipped promptly.

The only downside for me is the shopping cart only stays active for one session on my computer, that is, if the computer goes to sleep that cart is cleared (doesn’t happen with others) For me, shopping lists don’t happen in one sitting. Lots of cross checking part numbers, pictures, the vehicle etc.

Well that’s not great…. Would have been either CC or PayPal, so hopefully if needed I can get out of it. I’m clearly not in need of them next week but it would be nice to know I’m going to get what I paid for, and that was my biggest order to date.

I’ve used Shop4Autoparts a few times over the years but seems my very helpful contact has moved on. I’ve also used P A Blanchard but of late they have not replied to a few emails which means I don’t get information to proceed with a order. Their lack of photos doesn’t help as we all know part numbers are not always correct. Others I’ve come across are RimmerBros, John Richards Surplus and Paddocks of course.

There is a defender td5 ish inner wing style bottle that has the fitting for the headlight pump.20170411_193341.thumb.jpg.128e6d3deea8475c7d96212ab1c31702.jpg

Defender bottle and modified discovery bumper jets above. I bought the bottle at sodbury because it hadn't been drilled for the standard pumps.

Edit found a picture on the internet.

Thanks guys.

headlight washers just aren’t a need for me.  I understand the pump is a higher output spec that could be used for the windscreen. I’d have to do a comparison to see it’s flow through two heads vs my one standard pump per head. And I’m not sure the Td5 reservoir would fit (I’d have to find one and trial) As much as it would be nice if Toyota or such did the same style of pump I just doubt it. (I can take one of mine to an auto parts store to see if there is anything similar), but We may think there aren’t too many variations, and I imagine not across some of the European maker/models but I reckon there would actually be a bloody hundred different pumps out there.

They don't have a great rep here. Stuff missing or substituted, and if anything goes wrong, trying to return or replace, or even getting a refund is almost impossible.

Even though I’ve had some time off, due to a accident caused by complete complacency and thinking about the next thing rather than what was right in front of me, I’ve done bugger all. I did pic up the tools for the first time yesterday and wanting to take it easy, I removed the brake pedal box and prepped for Gal. I couldn’t do much to the box itself, just remove sharp edges (another thing I hate) and I drilled a hole either side of the lugs that the return springs hook onto. I figure these little holes will fill with Gal and I’ll have to drill them out. It also allows the molten zinc to drain and not build up at that point. I’ll either rubber grommet or seal them when done to stop water ingress.  The plastic brake light switch is 1/2” UNF, I might silicone this before Gal.

The brake pedal got the usual treatment.

Hope your hand makes a full recovery, I would hate to lose fabrication skills due to irreversible damage to my hands, also we need to see more of your tig / fab skills, wishing you well regards Stephen

Thanks mate 👍

Fortunately it was my left hand and even more so the amount of random luck to escape with little (by comparison to what easily could have been) injury. Still haven’t got full range of movement and my thumb might not ever be right (but then it would match its shattered opposite lol)

Eek - be careful.

On a different note - I love those 4 spoke wheels.  Lots of people swapped them out for either aftermarket or the Td5 type wheels - but I think they are lovely I use.

I never really thought about the factory steering wheel in my 98’ 110 (it did the job) but for some reason I always preferred the look of the earlier type. I’ve seen a couple recovered in leather that look smart so may get that done. I also have a nice aftermarket sports wheel a mate gifted me (he had it left after selling his Def’r and never fitting it)

When I’m at that point I’ll pick which one I prefer. That will include size/ergonomics.
