It replaced the above after an offer I couldn't refuse. 1985 90 currently consisting of a complete rear axle (fanfare please) and the front axle 2/3 rds the way there. Good fun at the time but now wonder how I put up with the bonejarringly noisy rattletraps. 1957 86''and 1957 107'' series ones. same comments as above. 1989 RangeRover Hiline Auto wih Viscous transfercase. Uninspiring and worrisome vehicle to take into isolated remote areas. 1965,1966, 71, 76 ,78 , 88' model in various body configurations. I converted the 1966 model to 6x6 drive back in 1978, the 65 model is mycurrent portal axled conveyance. 2 1965 Lwb models in truck cab and hardtop configs. 2 1963 International Scout pickups. these were fitted with one bank ofa 304 cu inch 'V8 giving a 152 cu inch slant 4. POS with 3 speed gearbox tiny Dana 27 diffs and spindly axle housings. 1964 beam axled leaf sprung Austin Gipsey LWB pickup. Excellant Austin interpretation of series LandRover without the weak gearbox/diffs or front axle tramp. Strong oval section chassis but unfortunately a body prone to severe rust out. 1940 Chevrolet Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) 15 cwt 4x4 truck.Very heavy duty slow, noisy, rough riding world war 2 truck that had very little offroad ability unless it was carrying a couple of tons on the back. It was powered by an oil drip lubricated 215 cu inch overhead valve 6 similar to early British Bedfords. !942 Dodge Weapons Carrier. Good looking, strong 3/4ton world war 2 truck with torquey92 bhp 230cu inch side valve 6cyl,a highly flexible chassis that kept its wheels firmly planted in conditions that would stop a non difflocked Defender dead in its tracks.Performance was let down a little by only having a single speed transfercase. one 1985 and one 1989 Holden Jackaroo( Isuzu Trooper) Station Wagon. Probably the least capable but most reliable of all the vehicles mentioned, but gee when something does go wrong they are an absolute%$&*??? to work on that would test the patience of a very patient person. Cavalier Mk 2 1.6 Peugeot 309 1.6 SRI Sierra Sapphire 1.8 Peugeot 405 1.6 estate Orion 1.6i Ghia (later condemed by MOT garage due to corrosion!) Vauxhall Chevette 1.3 (inherited from sister as a 'toy') Cavalier Mk 3 1.8 VW MK 1 Golf GTI 1.6 (Tuned 'just slightly' above standard - something broke every time I drove it but heck did it move!) VW Polo 1.4 Peugeot 406 estate Also driven/played with: Forklifts Telehandlers Tractors Mobile Cranes Boat Hoists (straddle carrier type) inc biggest one in uk at 200 t capacity (at the mo - but ask miketomcat - he knows the one!). Plus many years as a pizza delivery boy on mopeds - soooooo much fun! And numerous other cars/vans/trucks and minibuses. (including claim to fame as when I was 21 I was the uk's youngest examiner under MIDAS - the minibus training/assesment process for voluntary drivers) But like others I really want to learn to drive an HGV....... First was a 1989 Disco 200tdi( ex's technically) That was replaced with a 1994 110 200tdi (via sheeppimp, ex kept) My own first 4x4 was a bargain £275 with 6months T&T 1973 RRC( how it had MOT i will never know) in 2005. Above sold for what i paid for it after 2 months and bought a 'good' 1990 3.9 RRC...... umm 3 months later discovered it was suffering with a mild corrosion problem........ spent 6months being stripped and turned into the current Hybrid. Also have a Lotus 7 Replica, got at 20yrs old, built & registered in 1999, still have, longest owned car ever. Normal cars 83 Metro 1.0( replaced every possible part in 18months) 90 Rover Metro GTa 1.4 K series 88 Mk2 Golf Gti (written off by silly moo hitting me on M3) 89 Cav Mk2 Various Company Cars, (Pug 106, Toyota Corrola, Renault Extra, Astra diesel) 89 Ford Orion ghia ( very rusty arches) 98 Nissan Primera SRi 05 Honda Civic Type S (work funded lease car) Just purchased yesterday to replace above lease car when change job in Feb 2000 Honda Accord 2.0SE Executive Sport Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

steve b Posted January 14, 2008 Share Posted January 14, 2008 ....first 4x4 was a Austin Champ back in 1980 on the road then 1955 86" 2litre canvas with rollbar 1952 80" rover 60 engined trialler 1969 IIA 2 1/4 then 3.5V8 1979 RRC 2dr rebuilt from a write off -took bl**dy ages to do 1949 80" 1.6 road going 1953 80" 2litre /FC gearbox/hyd winch/atlas rear difflock on terratyres- road going! 401 diesel unimog 404 petrol unimog V8 90 TC on 11.50 - 15 terra tyres (xt's) with ramsey winch Max 6x6 ATV with cage amphibious offroad toy Honda TRX350 4x4 road legal to which I added 26/12x12 agri tread terra's and a X1 winch ......wish I still had it 109SIIA ambulance 2 1/4 diesel- travelled to pyrenees with this one several RRC's auto and manual and now the 109 SW cars start with a Hillman Hunter 1725 TC then Pontiac Firebird 455HO pos Opel Monza 3.0 GSE manual ....lovely car, in 7 yrs and 80k miles all it needed was tyres and engine services Astra 1.7 td ...snore... the ex took that with her...so thats alright Bikes on the road : triumph 650...not for long..px'ed it for cash and a diesel dumper smoother and more reliable BMW R80GS paralever still got it imo one of the best allround bikes ever ......most memorable drive off road still has to be the 6X6 Explorer- fantastic Cheers Steveb Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MY00 Subaru Impreza Turbo (they're adictive ) George: ...er... piles of SIIA Sold my last Scooby for a Rover Mini Cooper to save up for the Canada/America Trip, missing it like mad even though I love the mini. Also kinda half a share in 'Charlie'; a Camel Defender 110, otherwise known as 'Big Yellow Moneysponge' B) Who we've taken overlanding and to stupid places like Moab, Alaska and the Colorado Mountains. darthdicky Posted January 14, 2008 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Just the one 90, had it 7 years now I think, started off as dads mini mid-life crisis, then I had it once I'd passed my driving test and then Jonathan had it once he'd passed his and I was away at Uni. Changed quite a bit in that time, spent a fortune on it and it still breaks every five minutes. No plans to sell it, just try to build some reliability into it at some point... My other cars have been 2 Rovers that have been passed onto me through the family (free!), current one goes fast enough to scare me so will do until I can afford an Impreza!
