  1. What does a steering damper do? A steering damper is a damping device designed to inhibit an undesirable, uncontrolled movement or oscillation of a vehicle steering mechanism. To check if it's worn remove it and extend and contract the piston to check if there any free play in the travel of the piston if there is then it's faulty.
  2. If you were happy with the old existing Alpine head unit u may find a direct replacement on Ebay or similar. Not all head units what ever make have the facility to interface with the steering remote controls those that do will reqiird a patch lead. U may also have to do a work-around to retain the existing amp.
  3. If it's just patches then inject wallpaper overlap paste and spread it, it dries without leaving a stain.
  4. Hi and WELCOME my first thought is that a lead/s are incorrectly fitted to the wrong plug/s.
  5. It must have been massive, as the ultrasonic sensors are not that sensitve, anyway that sort of thing can set the alarm off.
  6. All the passenger doors have just a dumb slave actuator with no micro-switches. If the CL locks/unlocks ok via the fob I would have the doorcard off first and have look at the master actuator, a slight adjustment can be made with the mounting screws, perhaps sometimes the actuators operating rod is not traveling to it's full extent therefore return to the locked position. You can spray some lub over the lock mech at the same time.
  7. You can be in top gear at 30 it depends on engine load and road speed it's the torque converter that locks up around 54mph, I can stay out of top gear up to 80+ when pushed hard with the peddle to the metal
  8. I only use petrol so my 3.9 disco gives me an average of 17 to 20 mpg the last time I checked 4 or 5 years ago and when I had my 3.5 RRC that gave me an average of 16 mpg everywhere.
  9. As above but buy a LR "genuine part" seal as they work, pattern may not.
  10. 1. Yes always 2. The rail has a stud at each end which passes through the gasket-spacer and into the hole in the roof and roof strengthen plate and then fixed with a washer and nut. So u can seal externally insitu with ie. Sikaflex or similar, or remove the rail and fit new gaskets.
  11. If your grease guns connector is to thick to get into the cv joint and clip onto the nipple just put the connector on a grind stone and take a few laps of metal off and it will then fit. To make greasing easer get a connector with a flexible hose to fit your grease gun..
  12. The TV coax jack is for the remote (fob) anntena which if u still have one is located up in the A piller. U don't have a passive immobiliser so no cables to the ignition switch surround from the alarm ecu..
  13. I understand that D2s have two actuators, a lock and an unlock both in the lock as apposed to the D1 which has a single actuator outside the lock. The bottom line is that D2 locks are not repairable therefore a replacement is required
  14. Whats a strange electrical noise?? ABS dosen't make a noise other then the brake peddle vibration and won't cut in if the tyre traction is good, and even under under hard braking the brakes will be silent. Maybe a pad has worn to the steel backing, maybe it's a wheel bearing.
  15. NO... you purchase 7 lts but put the correct amount in as indicated on the engine oil dip stick.
  16. Just follow the directions in the owners handbook which i'm sure u have done. If the compressor doesn't engage then first thing i would get checked is the "gas".
  17. with a good battery fitted press the lock button four times to synic the fob and ecu if you haven't done already that is.
  18. I've read in the forums that some owners have removed the harmonic damper and have not had any issues as a result. Did you prime the your new Terrafirma steering damper before you fitted it?.
  19. That won't work for the diff flange nut will it
  20. Try the 4 bolt flange from a D1 V8 that dosen't have a donut I think that's the later models like mine ie.1997.
  21. Ok if you are running on 8J rims D2, but to wide for the D1's 7J rims, you will have to adjust the steering stops,
  22. I also have his great book for info on the disco, and all the wheels are shown in the book and they depend on vin and model.. 1. XS wheels 2. Similar to above and vin no. VA 3. ES wheels 4. 200 series 5. For vin no. VA 6. No info
  23. sheltie50 is correct, I have had this once on my old RR I replaced the big bushes at the front and the prob was sorted, an easy job but I had to go and buy a big ring spanner to undo the nut. The indication of a problem is a few milimetre's gap between the plate/washer and the rubber.
  24. Also tell him that the 300series V8's 96 onwards don't have donuts.
