Once you've got a big scrap pile the world is your oyster as you can build what you want.

No the formers will cater for both sides just have to position the aluminium differently, as always the formers are the more difficult bits to make, I could churn out the hinge panels relatively quickly now regards Stephen
Popular Post Stellaghost
Sorted, well happy with them as I recon they were the most difficult part to form on bulkhead build regards Stephen

I had a slight concern with depth of press as this was 25mm where as vent panel was 15mm, but happily it's turned out well and as @smallfry said a few coats of NATO green will make all the difference regards Stephen
Bowie69
Lovely work, rest is almost box section and sheet, isn't it?

Thanks It's U section to be precise of which I happen to have, I will be looking to inlay box section into it in certain areas to add strength, the rest is flat, folded sections and boxes. The only other tricky bit will be the curved flange for gearbox tunnel but shrinker and stretcher will help me out there regards Stephen
Stellaghost
My scrap U section, two wins with this, first is it got scrapped and secondly I didn't weigh it in a few months ago because I thought about it, phew!! Cleaned up a bit Box section fits in perfectly for areas I want to beef up Tried hinge panel on, will do the job nicely regards Stephen

My plan was to tig weld it at end I can fully get to and then tig weld it across full length on both sides, I could also add a couple of puddle welds regards Stephen

I'm figuring it needs to be strong enough to withstand the odd jolt also aluminium work hardens and can crack easier than duralumin also I remember seeing an ex navy 80" ( I think ) years ago and it had an aluminium bulkhead from factory, the parts I could see were around 1 /4" thick, I may have to make an external roll cage to help protect bulkhead once finished regards Stephen
Stellaghost
Just arrived in the post some 45mm solid round aluminium bar, going to use this for the chassis mounting point, will drill for bolt size and drill box to take full diameter, that should give me plenty of area to tighten up to regards Stephen

Seems it was Series 1, apparently the press for the steel bulkheads broke and they handmade aluminium ones as a stop gap.

Maverik
I hate running out of gas. I started stocking a 2nd bottle for the big projects, - I hate having an unplanned stoppage. I bought a lovely tig machine just before I moved house, and its been in storage the past 2 years, rather hankering to have a space to play again, I love metal gluing.

Keeping an eye out on Facebook for a second cylinder. MIG isn't a problem as I go through it so slowly, but also I can steal a mates from from the opposite unit if I get stuck. Sadly he's not got any pure argon.
