TBH new build is easier than renovating as once you are out of the ground everything is predictable. Whereas with renovating you don't know what you will uncover. Out of curiosity, will you be fitting a traditional combi boiler or will you be fitting a heat pump or something? Also, will you be going for more traditional means of insulation or will you be using one of these spray foam type insulations that seem to be very popular just now? Love how the cars/ garage seem to get priority in the design. 😁 As for my 2024 projects/ plans, unfortunately not much different than last year. But I did come back from my new years pilgrimage with a good dose of motivation. Somewhat in order: - finish the MS RRC of a mate/ customer, so he can either take her home or sell her; - finally get Phoenix the Range Rover running and driving, so I have a daily that can do playdays as well; - find and fix the ignition problems on the JPS Elan, so we can use it for more roadtrips; - find and fix the fueling issues on the Jag V12, for open top daily driving; - finally start in earnest on the Esprit. And I need to sell the Merc, as it's doing nothing but taking up space. Same with the RRS parts car. Once the Range is up and running, I should sell Tommy the Lightweight as well. Then, if we find time in between all the other work I don't know of yet, maybe try and get the TVR running again. And/or Wouter's Escort. It's mid-chassis swap and has suffered from project creep as well as distraction and procrastination despite being the first thing I see when I open the curtains each morning. If I'm honest, just having the body reunited with the rolling chassis would be a nice way to end the year even if incomplete! Keep the Disco 3 on the road which is a task in itself. Get OH's ex-marital home sold and out the way so we can concentrate on drawing up plans for what we're going to do with mine: gabling the neds of th hio roof, extending over the garage and adding a dormer, practically doubling the size of the living space. Probably enough to be going on with but the 90 sat round the back of the house by the garden is definitely on the list of projects that will be rearing their ugly head as soon as there's chance. I want a big garage to play in never had one and always wanted one and as I have a big birthday this year and I am the wrong side of 50 I want to make sure that I have the best play room possible. That is my prefered option. For the living accomodation over the car port, because this is cantilevered I want to reduce the weight as much as possible, to reduce costs. I will be looking at a timber kit solution over this part. Want very high insulation values, above mimimum standards, to reduce the heat load. Main objecting will be to go green. So am looking at flooding the roof with CHP solar panels which can extract heat and power and use that to provide both for the house. Am hoping that the ststem will, at worst, be cost neutral but hopefully finance generating as the tariff on CHP panels are considerably higher. Heat panels are massively under utilised here because people don't think they will generate enough heat. It think CHP is a good way to go, as both the heat and power will be subsidised from other sources if you need. That's some interesting engineering going into it though, that's for sure! We used to use a programme called homer back in the day and I used to love designing the energy mix I'd have in my dream home haha.. looking back, it was a very sad way to spend my free time 😅. I'm sure you're already aware but there are some companies through our way that are doing small scale wind turbines specifically for houses and smaller buildings that can deal with any wind conditions.. could be a cool little bolt on? It ended up having to come down after court cases and lobbying from a few jealous neighbours about the 'noise' it generated. You're joking??? Both of them are never-ending jobs lists / rolling rebuilds although the general trend is towards "more done than not" they'll never be 100% perfect. Big jobs this year: Replace all the brakes on the ambulance, swap to discs on the rear + vented on the front because it very much CAN get them hot enough on alpine passes to warrant it, also we've never really touched the brakes other than maybe some pads & a sticky calliper in the 10 years we've now owned it so they must be due some love. The ambulance also needs a new bed foam and, like the 109, there's a ton of little bits really want sorting out. I suspect the driver's footwell will need doing too. For the 109 I might even start looking at the winch, but that's mostly going to mean spending big lumps of cash with the hydraulics chap unless I get really lucky and TBH it's managed this long without one at this point the winch would mostly be a project for the sake of a project, although if I can keep the thing up together and get out to more events in it that would mean more marshalling duties and some justification for having a winch. I do have vague plans to maybe start a few jobs on the RR, lifting it up and rolling the axles out to see what's wrong with them might be a start. I came close to buying a portable hydraulic lift last year to do some bits on the Mini, I'm thinking that one of those would also enable the RR body & chassis to be separated and propped up in the shed / moved to be worked on but that's the thick end of a grand for a piece of equipment, and right now finances need to recover a bit.
