Hybrid_From_Hell
There are very very very few people I let near my 90 with a spanner, let alone anything else, but there are a few exceptions, one being a very good friend, an outstanding mechanic "Daryl" Sharp peeps may note IBG on the front of the block - this is a Rover "Iceberg" block This engine has some seriously unusual bits on it, and he agreed to help, in the end he did the building with me helping him and I spent most of yesterday evening till near midnight removing the parts form the 3 month post clean soak in kersosene, recleaning and getting everything ready I have always belived cleaner the better, this has taken some cleaning - compare with the "Just Bought" pics at the start of this thread, some parts were beyond cleaning such as liners, crank was polished, heads rebuilt with new guides and valves lapped etc, its been some time coming today, but much work and £s in the meantime Also set to on the block which I had greased post new liners and cleaned this up, took from 6.30am till 10.00am before I was happy, pipe cleaners are an exceptionally good item to use in oilways with brake cleaner Crank was also cleaned off, also pipe cleanered the oilways etc, and the cam, and the rods, pistons, cylinder heads and a bucket of nuts bolts washers and other parts. The 'killer of the engine' (stripped and chucked in crates) had felt tip pen written the piston to bores, these cam off prob as it chucked them in the bins luckily Mr Eales engraves under the piston to show which is where. Few Pics of build up, we gave it up after 5.00pm as the Timing Chain (new) is the wrong one, (could finish front end), rocker shafts have excessive wear - couldn't finish heads and the seals for the valley gasket were non genuine (even though I specified genuine - so could finsh inlet But, rings gapped, crank fitted, conrods torqued up (once we found rating on google) as the arrow rods have arp bolts etc and cam fitted, heads on ec etc Few pics : Still more to spend yet and plenty to do, more in a few weeks hopefullty Nige

Hybrid_From_Hell
Really, really nice nige, nothing beats a super clean and organised engine rebuild What engine assembly lube are you using? James Shells and mains etc using graphite build as its going to be stood for a while, plus Valvoline VR1 where oil is required, as thats what it will run on plus ARP lube for build and something american which is a build oil which the label has worn off, but costs a small arm and half a leg when I bought it 20 years ago Nige

Andrew Cleland
God, those con rods are gorgeous (In fact, even nicer than the Childs & Albert ally one from a top-fuel dragster that I use as a paperweight - £10 from some Swedes at Santa Pod!) Hybrid_From_Hell
Yeah Baby I had to website search / ring / chat 'Torque' settings, it was then I found out that a set of these were only £1957 for the 8 - Yes, you read that right Shame to hide them in a block really Nige
landroversforever
They are rather nice, Nige, as you have 4 more cylinders than is necessary, can I have one for a paper weight?
Hybrid_From_Hell
More Porn Today saw a good used pair of Rocker assemblies arrive care of Mate , and the inlet, Timing Assembly, Injectors and Fuel rail and a few other bits glued onto the engine As its not going in for a while the Rockers were assembled with Graphite engine build paste, and everything went well today, except no front Timing cover as its with JED for "Tweakafication" and thus can't do sump, or much else The good news is now I know the pulley front cover and brackets are a bodge, I have had another rummage to the bottom of all the boxes and found the base part of the original Eales Puilley, which will be balanced to the engine, good, considering the pulley that was last on it has a big F off chuck missing out of it ! Eales one is drilled also for lightness, essentail for my truck of course Some build pics : Note the PRV exit hose is blocked off, not sure thats right but as yet can't see where it would go onto, and connecting the heater could be an interesting side project Now I have the plenum on I am refurbing the rocker covers hopefully this week, then with them on I can look at fabricating the 3 x trumpet bodys into 1 via a home made hand made bodgeification yet to be designed But getting there now More soon(ish) porn fans Nige
V8 Freak
Looking good Nige... Normal heater take has a nice stopper bolted into it under the thermostat... What's the big hole over towards #2 in the inlet plenum ? Does it have a nice big thread you can screw a hose adapter into ? Might have to do away with the nice pipes on top of the rocker cover and just pipe round like I did.. Neil
