Hopefully I'll be able to get to the next ibex meet as i missed the one last year by a couple of months. @Snagger the alternator is a straight swap mounting wise bar the m10 holes and upgrade to the wiring. I paid £20 for a second hand item but you do need to be careful to get the right one (The s#*tpart up grade is a Mondeo alternator by the looks of it). The pulley I used came off a Mondeo alternator that had been fitted to a 200tdi but looks to be relatively easy to fit and shim to line up. Was nice to see so many in one place and a few old faces from the Ibex world. Hopefully they will organise another meet up sometime and I will get mine back together by then. It would appear the ibex has a starter motor habit, it's already on its second starter. The first was stripped cleaned and re lub'ed before it died a few months later. Now the second (granted second hand) has needed stripping and re lub'ing, let's see how long this one lasts. Of coarse it has nothing to do with a few puddles both on and off road recently. miketomcat Posted April 25, 2020 Author Share Posted April 25, 2020 It's been sunny for a while now so on that basis it's going to persist down the entire summer . With this in mind it's probably time to sort out the wiper issue that has existed since build. For IVA the wipers must not touch the screen rubber, however in my calculations (I use the term loosely) I managed to go a bit far the other way. The IVA man commented on the lack of wiper sweep but passed it because it just about met the requirements. Over the winter we had a little bit of rain and I became more and more aware that a bit more sweep would be nice, but half the dash needs to come out. My wiper system is loosely based on the discovery system of push rods and crank arms, so the simple solution is to extend the crank arm on the motor this will increase the arc and extend the sweep. Some very suspect measuring later I think I need about 5mm. Strip out cut add a bit and weld up job done great, refit only to discover that whilst I do have more sweep it's a little to much but more importantly the push rod on the passenger side now hits part of the frame.luckily I checked this all manually so as not to damage the motor. Take two strip out cut 2mm out of the crank arm and reweld, carefully cut a slot 3/4 of the way through the push rod bend it (on the correct side tis time doh ) and weld it up. Reassemble and check, this time it clears and I have about 50mm more sweep at the tip. Tighten everything up and reset the wiper position (because the passenger wiper push rod is now a couple of millimeters shorter don't know how that happened ). I've had the push rod punch through, the pivot punch through, I've bent one, the pin snap off and the fork the pin is on snap off.
