Hybrid_From_Hell Posted October 30, 2009 Share Posted October 30, 2009 Hi All, I know there are a number of members out there who have a Halfords "Trade Card" Was wondering about a simple thread - this one, where if any member buys something LR based from Halfords, using a trade card that they think is particularly good value / others would like to know, then shove it when it happens into this thread ? I wondered about this as nothing is 'priced', you have to go in and ask, so its a bit like juggling in the dark likleyhood is something will appear on "special" and none of us will know (Yeo I'm a card holder now too ) Thoughts - Would this be useful ? I tried about 3 months ago at my local store, you either need: Motor Trade Role Qualifying documents Qualified Technician City & Guilds in Motor Mechanics Certificate or garage payslips Self–employed Mechanic High volume of local motor factor invoices from last 3 months Mobile Mechanic City & Guilds in Motor Mechanics certificate or high volume of local motor factor invoices from last 3 months Small Independent Garage Mechanic Recognised payslips for employee, high volume of local motor factor invoices from last 3 months or City & Guilds in Motor Mechanics Certificate High Volume Parts Buyer(or frequent user of car parts) High volume of local motor factor invoices from last 3 months ^^ From Halfords webby HOWEVER, when asking in-store they said they had 'tightened up' on the application process, and the last one was no longer an option.... Trade £0.75 Wiper blades are cheap too £5.99 for defender length. Trade £1.50ish 2 pack of indicator, brake light bulbs etc £1.79 Trade £0.20ish Head light bulbs are often buy one get one free, but on trade there half price. Hope this helps. Although I am not in the motor trade (it doesn’t pay enough !) I have trade accounts with other parts suppliers and the Halfords discount is greater for consumable items that are own brand From what I see the issue of the card is very store dependant and ‘high volume parts buyer’ still does the trick. Bulbs are extraordinary good value ….. I bought 2 x 5W tail lamps at £2.49 retail……… I paid 46p Halford brand wiper blades are also good value (I believe that are made by Valeo) …….. for my V70 the retail at £18.99 …………. I paid £3.47 ! Halfords oil I understand is made for them by Mobil ……….. again the discounts are huge. My main reason for having the card is tools ………… the Halfords professional range of tools are top notch and I have recently replaced my ageing toolkit with all Halfords items …….. about £1.5K including discount. However, this card will be no good to you Nige (HFH) as you will not get discount on the pink fluffy dice and pink steering wheel glove ………. It didnt come off at the till, so i looked at her and said - they sign says they are free, and so she manuallly overrode it so i got cheap oil and free drivers, we both knew full well that it didnt apply to trade but i smiled sweetly and it worked. Boothy Posted October 30, 2009 Share Posted October 30, 2009 "Although I am not in the motor trade (it doesn’t pay enough !)", Jenson Button and that Hamilton fella are doing quite well out of the motor trade Ian Halfraud's trade cards also come into their own on batteries where there are some good big savings to be made, also depends on muppet of the day on the tills wether you get it on other things as well, My sons Peugeot 106 "Quicksilvers" front brake pads needed changing a couple of weeks ago, "need some front pads mate, for a 106 Quicksilver", so after several minutes tapping around on the computer said muppet asks me "what are they?" "pads mate", bit more tapping "we don't sell them sir", after a lot of explaining what pads are and what they do, the lad gets me 2 different Halfords part numbers for front pads, when we finally find the boxes to suit the nunbers he expained " the more expensive one's are dearer because they are better quality and bigger as well", to which I replied "it's not because the smaller one's are for the 1.0ltr and the bigger one's for the 1.4 and 1.6 is it mate ? do you think?", "don't know sir, it's my first day today". The worrying bit is how many other poor souls has he sold the wrong part to who will go home strip their motor down only to find muppet has sold them the wrong part?, it's happened to most of us and it's so bloody frustrating, but the ending is at least they were heavily discounted with the trade card, and the muppet is probably on the minimum wage, glad it wasn't an oilfilter or something similar. mel Posted October 31, 2009 Share Posted October 31, 2009 Hi, I work for a motor Co based in Dagenham, Essex and was told about the card by someone at work prob about 2 yrs ago and to be honest i've only used it a couple of times as its usually a.p.i.t.a. to find out how much stuff is as its not just a set % discount and varies from item to item so they have to look it up on their system first to give you a price and then as said before you don't get the special offers. Battery for the wifes car was £40 more in Halfords than what I paid at a battery specialist. However I did have to wait till monday morning for the battery specialist, so the fact Halfords are open on a sunday afternoon is handy, assuming you have a trade card and can pay sensible money. John This may be a store-specific thing then, as I reguarly phone my local store and see what the prices will be with a trade card (my dad gets one through Monarch Aircraft Engineering oddly enough) before driving over there. Even if I'm in and need to ask they never ask for a card until actual payment at the desk. As has been said above, one needs to be clever about it as some things can still be bought cheaper elsewhere...but for some things it's a bargain. My Professional Range socket set (the massive one, with the standard lifetime guarantee) I got for £100 with my dad's trade card. Not bad at all. [OT] Drove over to my local halfords to get a new battery for the 206 (checked and reserved online) only to find when i got over there it was not tall enough to be clamped in, or for one of the termial clamps to fit! not pleased! Cynic-al Posted November 2, 2009 Share Posted November 2, 2009 There are ways to get payslips with any employer, NI number & pay rate you like on, I wouldn't recommend it though as I believe payslips have a special status when it comes to tax etc. halfords 75Ah battery with 4 yr warrenty £100 no card, £60 with card.
