  1. Neat idea, how many actuations would you think the ratchet would last for before becoming worn enough to slip?
  2. That guy has the sort of feedback that makes you want to spend 28k with him ........
  3. Love adding 35" tyres and then welding on steps to reduce the ground clearance
  4. Someone must've had a job lot of tube ....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141808241701 I think it might have been a slight over reaction to a dent in his drivers side wing....
  5. Never realised they had a worm drive rear axle Mickey, I'd be interested in what the top speed of one was but it feels wrong using the word 'speed' when asking about something that no doubt was anything but speedy.
  6. Have to agree, since your recommendation the other year I've managed to get our group at work to spend over 2k on metcal gear, probably nearer 3k tbh. They are absolutely amazing kit, I let a mate borrow my MX5000 and he went out bought one straight away.
  7. If you extended it forward more you could drop the height so the bottom rested on the fairlead, that might stop it spinning.
  8. You could cnc plasma something very similar from stainless and put a few folds in it, would be quicker to make, just need to fix the spinning in the wind issue.
  9. Unfortunately is seems very susceptible to interference so needs a bit of a redesign when I get the time.
  10. I can guarantee that if you take both those bulbs out your distance travelled will still light up Here's a picture of one where I unsoldered the green board mounted LED's and fitted blue ones for someone.
  11. Damn it! Ross hasn't totally lost his mind Read step 41 and look at the picture in the top right hand corner of that page. EDIT: forum software has made a mess of the picture but you can still make it out
  12. The parts diagram only shows one stud and nut but lists the quantity as two studs and two nuts ....... Edit: But on a Santana PS10 which actually has same part numbers as Land Rover it shows both studs!!! but the lower one looks to be holding the front output housing. Equivalent land rover page
  13. I'm betting Ralph could find out in some of his parts books
  14. My first one I lifted by hand on my own from inside the Defender and that was painful as well as not fun (at 68 you won't be doing that). My 2nd one was helping James so we had the adaptor plate and two people! This is what I recommend You will need to raise your disco a bit to get everything underneath though if I remember correctly.
  15. There are of course many types of stainless rod, 309L is designed for dissimilar metals so is probably a good starting point.
  16. Ok, it's not a 4x4 but it has a little something http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281807841142
  17. I understand perfectly where you are coming from, and there's a lot to be said for avoiding the argument/stress.
  18. Although the warranty is 1 year you may still have some power here because products are expected too have a reasonable lifespan. This can be up to 6 years for certain products, I don't know what it would be on car parts. I do believe that it is up to you to prove it's a manufacturing problem rather than abuse.
  19. Thought this was part 1 http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=64064 EDIT: Although JeffR described it as the owners manual... PS Jeff will the hospital be safe with you in their?
  20. My house was built in 1900 (at least that's what it says on the front) and has the same plaster, if you don't want to take it all off cut it with either a Fein oscillating tool or similar.....
  21. Back when the LEZ was first introduced the DVLA wouldn't change the body type on anything older than a TD5 but you could register for an exemption with the LEZ by sending photos of the windows and seats in the back of your Defender. EDIT: Details are here http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=21503&p=611664
