gav-
ok, i am not expecting super cheap insurance, I have two accidents under my belt! but i cant seem to get insurance for 2 cars (let alone the racer!) i want to keep my smart roadster, and either get a p38 lpg or a defender 90, with some bigger tyres. and get insurrance for them both. i spoke to one 4x4 company and they wanted 1600quid for the slightly modded defender. I can get a multicar policy for the smart and the rr for 900quid. (this seems ok to me). but i would like a defender rather than a rr. but how do you all do it? NU and Zurich used to have non trade multi-car policies, but I think these days the nearest is Direct Line who offer large-ish discounts for 2nd and 3rd cars. Being non-standard vehicles and recent accidents is likely to make Direct Line too expensive. My suggestion is separate policies for each vehicle - look at NFU for the LR and Smart/Endsleigh/Direct Line/confused.com/ your local walk in broker for the Smart. There is no substitute for shopping around for cheap insurance - all companies are different and non-standard risks or too many accidents can be a real pain. Night Train
I used to have seperate policies for my cars and bike but I have now spent too much time on a single vehicle and lost my NCB for the other policies. Should I get another then I will just get another policy and see if they will give me a reasonable NCB based on my driving record on my existing policy. white90
Swinton and swift cover where best for normal cars(unmodified) Swinton charge less for me with No NCB to insure the Same C class Mercedes than Churchill did with her full NCB Swift cover charged £30 less to insure the SLK than Churchill to insure the C class(Vals policies)
gav-
it seems that the insurrance decision has been made for me, the best situation i can get is a rrv8 and smart on one policy, but start one now and put them both onto the same policy when the smart comes up for renewal. i am going to try nfu for the defender but dont expect that to be much better than what i have already been quoted for! GBMUD
NFU let me have multiple cars on one policy - and use the NCB on all of them. The other option is a Motor Traders policy but there are some limitations on things like windscreen cover and NCB protection. Any payout on a traders policy will likely be at trade price. I had two vehicles on the account (think they were technically separate policies) but could only use the no claims bonus on one.
Raumer
Footman James used to allow multiple cars on one policy. Would assume that they still do. I have the landie insured as a second car through Roadsure. Ed
hairyone
These guys now have a multi-car policy for indviduals might be worth a call We’re proud to launch our new Homefleet policy on 24th July 2006. An innovative all-in-one policy aimed at individuals and their families who own a range of vehicles and find insuring them separately tiresome and uneconomical. It may be stating the obvious, but you can’t drive more than one motor at a time! So if you own a range of vehicles, or 3 or more, then why insure them individually? Homefleet cover is the first to acknowledge that an elementary mathematical calculation of the risk simply has to save the insurer money - a saving which Tradex is happy to share with its customer. bushwhacker
I put a post on here about insurance on the 18th March and had 3 replies, thanks to those who replied but it was a bit disappointing, but I suppose living in NI it was better than none. I am 46 and finding it difficult to source insurance. I did eventually get sorted out with Sureterm. Gripe over ! Guys we need to wake up to the fact it is hard to find insurance and if we do'nt sort this out we will be off the road and no pun intended. Does anyone know what we need to do?. If we say nothing how can we be heard.? Our sport or hobby causes minimal if any bother to others. And I said my gripe was over. I lied
FridgeFreezer
I insure mine separately - gives two lots of NCB after a while (and they'll often take into account all the years without claims on other policies - EG company van). Shop the normal insurance co's for unmodified, NFU or Adrian Flux for modified.
plasticbadger
Most people on here will be running very different types of car, each requiring different specailties from the insurer - I for example have one extensively modified Discovery for off road fun with low annual mileage and one standard Discovery used for business and daily use and high annual mileage. Strangely Adrian Flux was cheapest with both - each under £400 fully comp for a 28 yo (they take into account the other policy without linking them - ie two lots of no claims etc.)
Paul64
I have an interesting dilemma regarding insurance. Does anyone know of companies in the UK that will insure a DVLA UK registered Land Rover that they know is being used for business purposes abroad. Soon as you move from private to Business it opens up a whole new can of worms! Cheers, Paul
plasticbadger
My Adrian Flux policy covers me for business use abroad, but on a Green Card process, rather than for an extended length of time or regular journeys.
lrfarmer
hi i use NFU for both my cars there both landrovers, but thay would do any 2-3-(7) cars as long as theres no van there fine. if theres vans there prices aren't as good.
jules
My post code must be bad for NFU as they are very very expensive for me on anything and I have a clean licence and full NCD for nearly ten years I think they don't like my 60k annual millage My Racer is a V8 5.3 340 bhp TMC and its £300. fully comp ltd to 2k mileage that was the more expensive quote but they new what they were talking about and installed us with a little more confidence. The LSE RRC is similar again all fully listed modifications. They do keep pushing us to use there full competitions insurance service but we never do. reads90
Well My 90 and Disco is with Shannons fully comp . They are one of the only lot that insure personal imported cars and as the 90 is a personal import i have problem with it. But we have one insurance policy with two cars on it and the camper trailer , The Disco and the 90 Our CTP (third party ) is with Suncorp for the 90. What we got when we got it here and the Disco is RACQ
Paul64
My Adrian Flux policy covers me for business use abroad, but on a Green Card process, rather than for an extended length of time or regular journeys. That is very interesting as I spoke with Adrian Flux yesterday and they said they would insure for business use in the UK but strictly no business use outside of the UK under any circumstances. OilIT
chubb insurance also do household car insurance - ie multi car multi driver insurance. the only caveat is that you must have at least one car valued over £30k - ruled me out - but worth considering if you have some exotica in the garage

gav-
so the plot thickens. I have just contacted the nfu and initially had insurrance for a 90 200tdi with different tyres. I rang up asking for a few extras such as winch, rollcage etc. No chance! really am thinking it would be easierjust to get a rr lpg- i can get insurrance, sleep in it when racing, tow happily with it and do a smal amount of greenlaning!
