Nigelw
Mundane I know, but is it possible that BP could deliver a serviceable pulley? The only part to ellude me was the A/C pulley for the crank, found a choice of 2, both supplied by same parts dealer, one is genuine and the other being BP. The cost comparison is significant and hence my question here, BP retails £60 genuine is £95. Worth a gamble or just wasting my time? Part is ERR 2352 crank pulley with aircon. Soren Frimodt
I'd buy the BP pulley for sure, it is quite a simple thing to make and even if their lathe should be a lot more knackered than the one used to make the OE one, it won't matter on a Landy
Pepé le Pew
I wouldn't buy the BP one for sure. My experience is that they sell pulleys and flanges made from inferior metal and the splines or keyways are badly manufactured and out of true. Same goes for Bearmach. Cheers, Eric. Retroanaconda
For the sake of £35 it's not worth the higher risk of shoddy parts. If the genuine was hundreds of pounds I might be inclined to take a punt on the Britpart, but not for that price difference. It's not the sort of part you are going to have to replace on a regular basis either.
Nigelw
Genuine one it is going to have to be then One day they will stop selling tat, then again, probably not LOL
GW8IZR
Not the same but.... pressed a new bearing into a 300tdi belt idler for someone, the land at the back of the pulley split off, the casting metal had more air in it than a politician. When I asked, it was a few years old but from a blue box. That said the OEM pulley from LR may well come from the same place as the BP - hard to say
Nigelw
I have/had an idler pulley, just gotta rummage around in my spares boxes to see if it's still usable? If the bearings are shot, can they be replaced?
GW8IZR
Yes its fairly straightforward to swap them which is fortunate as the cheap bearings don't seem to last long. There are threads and YouTube instructions but basically there is a snap ring that you have to fish out then the bearing just pushes out. I just grind a slight taper on the snap ring before re fitting so it comes out easier for the next person to do it. 3.50 from quality bearings on line Copy from my last order if its helpful >>> Your Order Contains... Nigelw
Ah, no no no, I have a 200Tdi, there is an idler/tensioner "V" pulley that goes on the spindle flange where the FIP cover would normally be. The pulley is part No. 614718, the inspection cover tensioner spindle is part No. ETC 8853 I just found the idler/tensioner pulley and the bearings grumble a little but it does spin freely. Any idea on how you might be able to swap out the idler/tensioner bearings?
muddy
I have a britpart crank pulley and air con tensioner pulley on my 300. I'm still alive and I think I even saw a furry ickle kitten around the yard the other week so it's not all bad. Will.
GW8IZR
Oops very sorry, typically I've just done mine in the 90 so it was on my mind :-) I don't know the size of that bearing but if you have a caliper you should be able to measure and order from same place. Press the bearing out, take it to your local bearing selling place, and they'll get you a brand new SKF or Timken unit, if not from the shelf, they'll order it. LiamC
I purchased that exact crank pulley for my second alternator set up, I went for the BP one and I wished I hadn't. The OE twin groove pulley I removed was a heavy stong looking thing but the BP tripple groove pulley is a very lightweight pressed tin type of thing. Yes it does work but I don't think it was worth the £35 saving.
JeffR
Given that I once got some solid brake pipes from them, the answer has to be a resounding YES

GW8IZR
bet it was a good pedal though..
FridgeFreezer
Bits like that I'd take a used genuine one over a new BP one. On previous evidence they are capable of hashing up ANYTHING in ways you wouldn't think possible. Of course, sometimes they send decent stuff... sometimes. Bowie69
sometimes they send decent stuff... sometimes. Only when they are out of stock and grab you one from the main dealer.
Troll Hunter
If anything is in a blue box, give it a wide berth. I ordered a genuine crankshaft rear oil seal, which comes in its own mounting plate, and they even managed to get the mounting bolt holes in the wrong position! JeffR
I remember the thread you had on that - unbelievable. My ancient pet rat, Tiberius, refuses to use a BP box for his nest! Nuff said.
Anderzander
I bought a bench seat from them - I posted on here : 'what could go wrong with a seat ?' I hadn't thought it through - it was the least comfortable seat I think I've ever sat on. I do though remain optimistic to hear a report from someone of an excellent blue boxed product. Hear it from someone else though being the plan ....
qwakers
i bought a pair of blue box calipers, a pair of discs and a fill set of pads.... the pads and discs where fine, the calipers (the correct part number mind!) needed the pad retaining pin holes and the mounting holes enlarging to make them usable.... discomikey
the last couple of series props i got were britpart repackaged GKN items (Even still branded GKN on actual prop) the only decent things i have ever bought in a blue box/wrapper! i would go second hand genuine, although even genuine some were pressed tin and some were cast.
