  3. I tried the charcoal canister on my engine for a while when I took the truck to USA, it caused all sorts of problems and I ended up disconnecting it. Typical problems were oil leaks (because of insufficient crankcase ventilation) sooty plugs and stalling. So pretty much the opposite of what you are experiencing, apart from the stalling The small hose at the back of the engine block was only fitted to Defenders in UK market, it was not fitted to RR or Discovery V8 and was deleted altogether in later years with the introduction of EFI on the later Defender lumps. The important hoses are those from rocker covers to carbs, these enable to carbs to suck all the nasty fumes from the crankcase and stick them back into the engine, they are not unknown for blocking up, especially the spigots on the body of the carburetter

I doubt Land Rover made their own, they will have bought them off a shelf somewhere
  5. Had a front wheel come off a 2a 109 many years ago. Going round a corner quite slowly, thank goodness. All wheel nuts present and correct, but wheel 50 yards up the road. Do you remember the long wheel nuts with a taper on each end? Apparently over the years they had been over-tightened so many times they had gradually cut through the wheel rim to the point where it finally gave up the struggle

  7. At least with a dry powder extinguisher you don't run the risk of asphyxiation if it is discharged in a relatively confined area. Have you considered foam?
  8. I know that feeling. I did my One_Ten about 20 years ago. Then, a couple of weeks after I finished it, I took it to the Sahara, it came back with enough sand in it to to fill a sand pit, lines etched on the side windows by the blown sand, a bent outrigger where I had landed a bit hard on top of something that turned out not to be pure sand, dulled, scratched paint, lots of cuts in the tyres and it has been a similar story for the last 20 years. I went back to the Sahara a year later, I have sunk it in rivers, driven through hedges and thickets, hit a pheasant which gave the truck quite a dent, the bird seemed to survive the experience and now it looks 20 years older, well used and probably in need of the paintwork doing again. But at the age I am I think it will outlast me, thus we can both grow older disgracefully

  10. Don't ask me why the lip points upwards, it seems counter intuitive to me, water is bound to capillary into the tiniest space available
  11. judging by the shiny silver colour, that isn't the gearbox, it is the transfer box so unrelated to your problem
  12. The gaps should face outwards so the water is directed towards the outside. If there is a sharp lip on the outer part of the seal, that should be pointing upwards, in fact you can see it in your original picture

  14. I suppose it all depends on how much you value your time. If you strip, clean and reassemble your existing units with stainless pistons then you should never need to worry about them again.   15. The old seals were flat and the seals fitted to the WOLF had a different profile, this much is true but both types fit perfectly well. When I can get back to my home PC I will dig out the part No for the wolf variety. Looking at the picture of the genuine seal in the link, that is the later WOLF type with the external lip.   17. On page 6 of the aforementioned parts book it also has the dimensions for positioning the seat belt anchoring points in the rear floor of a station wagon. Oh and don't forget the reinforcing brackets which fit behind the diagonal part of the "C" pillar. Of course depending on age your vehicle may already have these items fitted.   18. I don't know if they still do it but Exmoor used to do a fabric designed for the military. You know the sort of stuff, keeps you cool n summer and warm in winter. Don't know if they still do it though. One thing it definitely is not is cheap. They also did a canvas seat cover at one time
  19. Have to feel sorry for those fellows driving the trucks on the motorways, usually near where there is a width restriction or something of that nature. You know the ones, with the BIG flashing arrow on the back. Saw one of the drivers being interviewed and he had been hit from behind, 5 times
  20. Speaking of bulldozers and lack of damage thereto as a result of an impact from another vehicle. Many moons ago when I wore green for a living. We had a Centurion ARV suffer an electrical failure on the Range road near Hohne. The crew were just demounting and preparing to put warning triangles out when it was hit, from behind, by a Mercedes travelling at quite some speed. You can probably imagine that the merc did not fare well when it hit this.
  21. Getting back to the original videos, what sort of damage did your 90 sustain in the collision with the Ka? On the subject of riding a bike I remember travelling, quite slowly as luck would have it, on the M1 one morning after a night shift. Heading North out of London, came to the junction with the M25 and because I was knackered I was simply sitting in a position in lane 1 behind a car and in front of a van. Then the Audi appeared on my left hand side and wanting to join the M1. The fact that I was already occupying the section of motorway he wished to use was of no relevance to him, not even when I started banging on the window right next to his head. Just kept forcing his way into the lane.
  22. I remember one of the drivers who worked for a fuel delivery company. Predominant colour Yellow. A woman pulled out across his bows and thank goodness the barrel was empty or he would never have been able to pull up in time. As it was he came to a standstill with the barrel bouncing around a little bit. She looks at him as though he has just been beamed down by Scotty. The conversation between them goes along the lines of. "Go on then Luv whats the story?" she replies "I didn't see you" a brief pause and he responds "It is 14 feet high, 8 feet wide, 70 feet long, painted bright yellow and you didn't see it." shakes his head and gets back into the cab. On a personal note, I remember one fellow pulling out, to turn right, across my bows and craning to see around this obstruction that was bearing down on him. I think he nearly fell out of his seat when he realised that the thing he was trying to see around was about to hit him. Still not entirely sure how I didn't.
  23. I seem to remember reading an article about this rover in LRO, about ooh 15-20 years ago. The owner turned up at Billing with it and said he was going to do a full restoration on it. He thought that because the chassis No started 86 that it was an 86 rather than an 80 which would seem a reasonable presumption
