  1. Could you post a picture of the item in question, please?
  2. Most galvanisers I have dealt with in the past have a system in place where they will do small jobs, below a certain weight, for a set price. The amount you can get done below the weight varies from company to company. I found one where I managed to get a full set of body callings from an early 110 (with 2piece doors) CSW, the front bumper, a pair of rear bumperettes, an A bar and some other , smaller, bits done for 75 pounds. This was a few years ago though. Typically they will not prepare them for you, so you need to remove any paint, I did it by chucking the bits on a garden fire. Rust is not a problem, the acid pickling dip will take care of that. When you get above the fixed price weight, they price jobs by weight. The item is weighed before being done, then weighed again. You pay for the additional weight of zinc added to the original weight of the items.
  3. Book MoT drive to test centre, maybe giving it an "Italian tune up" on the way. Does the smoke smell sweet?
  4. Rather than letting it sit there and smoke, take it for a drive.
  5. The 2 catalogues listed here, detail the military specific components fitted to Land Rover 110. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/pdf-military-part-manuals.160683/
  6. Goodness I didn't realise they were still in business, haven't bought a LR magazine for over 20 years. Mostly because I got fed up of the lack of detail, and knowledge, in the articles
  7. Military engines were 11j and have several minor differences to their civilian counterparts. Things like different valve guides, different exhaust valves and pistons. There is a parts list dedicated to the components which differed on the military models
  8. The rear axle fitted to the 110 prior to some time around 2000 is the Dana 60" axle. You might find some of the information you seek if you try looking up Dana and contacting them.
  9. Wouldn't bother taking them to a scrapyard. I took a set of wheels to a scrappy and got the princely sum of £8 for the 5 of them
  10. A proper V8 R380 has a slightly taller 5th gear than the R380 intended for coal burners. Oh and there is another manual box designed to live with a V8, the one that nobody has mentioned thus far. The LT 95 a 4 speed box, originally used in Range Rovers and the 101 agricultural and they can be noisy but they are tough
  11. If the body of your existing switch was threaded, then the replacement switch should also be threaded. It looks like the switch you have has missed a stage during the manufacturing process. I would return it to the vendor, explaining the problem. Then, hopefully, they won't sent you another with the same defect.
  12. Having had a 300Tdi reduced to crawling along the M1 on tick over because it wouldn't rev any higher due to a clogged diesel filter. As luck would have it I still had the other one of the pair I bought in the truck. The filter was completely clogged, at a week old.
  13. Given the age of the vehicle it may be a better idea to have a local paint shop or supplier mix you up some paint which matches yours exactly
  14. Further research has located the relevant Range Rover parts. From speedo to transducer. PRC6278 https://www.brit-car.co.uk/search.php?query=prc6278&xBrand=&part_type=&xSupplierID=&product-sort=&xPerPage=10 From gearbox to transducer there are 2 options, dependent upon whether the vehicle is 3.5 or 3.9 the 3.5 option is PRC6320 https://www.brit-car.co.uk/search.php?query=prc6320&xBrand=&part_type=&xSupplierID=&product-sort=&xPerPage=10 And the 3.9 is PRC7949 https://www.brit-car.co.uk/search.php?query=prc7949&xBrand=&part_type=&xSupplierID=&product-sort=&xPerPage=10
  15. They have a dealer in Cambridge. Ride solutions, 33 Illingworth way, Foxton, Cambridge CB22 6RY
  16. Even available at a not too ridiculous price. https://www.landroverpartscounter.com/oem-parts/land-rover-speedometer-cable-assembly-prc9555 Err let me rephrase that, I thought the reduction was the price.
  17. The part Nos you require, from NAS defenders are: PRC9555 from transducer to speedo PRC7949 transducer to gearbox. https://www.usermanuals.tech/d/land-rover-defender-90-110-nas-parts-catalogue-rover-manual/part46#453
  18. Maybe your new clutch plate is taking a while to bed in? What sort of condition was your fly wheel in?
  19. Agreed, had a double s system on a V8 One_Ten and it was dreadful. The tubular manifolds were an appalling fit, the "Y" pipe only just engaged with the "Y" pipe, then there was a short section of straight pipe followed by the centre box which didn't line up with any mounting points. The tail pipe came out from beneath the truck at EXACTLY the same point where the mud flap fitted. The welds on the manifolds failed and the entire thing went rusty. Complete waste of money. Had a bespoke system made by PD Gough near Nottingham and, by comparison, it was a thing of wonder.
  20. Correct, unless it is a high grade stainless exhaust. I wrapped the front section of a V8 for a couple of months until I replaced it with a stainless item. The degree of rusting on the non stainless pipe was remarkable
  21. Of course there is another possibility. That this is a further model to be added to the Discovery range
  22. Might be worth having a look at your clutch pedal to see if it is fitted with the spring assist which Land Rover fitted to the Tdi but seem to have deleted in later years. For such a simple modification it transforms the clutch pedal feel. As well as the various transfer box options there is also the option of a taller 5th gear ratio.
  23. You might be able to find the original part on Www.thepart.com
