Thoughts after a day's test drive
Nonimouse replied to elbekko's topic in New Defender Forum (2020 onwards)
I've had my test drive. I've also been marshalling at covid compliant P&P days wehere a couple come along. The look works for me. The name doesn't; stupid marketing mistake. It's far better than defender ever was. It's a Discovery and always will be - wheras the D5 is just a jumped up Freebie. They are very easy to drive reasonably well off tarmac - in fact, it's the driver that lets them down. Although the top level engines are simply too powerful for off tarmac work - much like a Supercharged L322 What is interesting is how well most modern 4x4's keep up with it - including pick-ups - it's good, but so are they -
Theres a tidy one on FB market place, down this way, with a cab - looks like it was a genuine one to

I find this with my Oukitel - signal is always good (ok, I'm on EE so it would be good), almost as good as Tesco, with it's piggybacking system. Oddly enough I find this with my wife's Huawei P35 Pro. One of the last sold in the UK before the US ban on Google being used in Chinese products. An excellent phone. I'm told it's very simplistic and actually rather basic in the way it works and what it runs; but what a great phone I'm very much a 'simple works, so why bother with complicated' kind of chap.

I really sympathise with you on this. We are issued with iphones at work (12pro). I loathe the damn things. The only thing that has improved over the last ten years is battery life - although having said that, the facial recognition is good. Signal is always bad. Far to complex - just an utter pain to use. Water resistance is appalling as is the build quality. But we need to spend tax payers money as quickly as possible, so 6.5k iphones to all the staff is fine. Same reason we use 02 - we need cost not efficiency; why would anyone actually want to make a call anyway?

Ask Superpro; or even better, speak to Somerset Bearing Supplies -the latter seem to be able to find pretty much anything, from CV's for a Halfy to leather seals for a cider press and everything in between

Oukitel. I have a WP8 Pro, which is more like a Phablet - but I like that. Oukitel have been making site equipemnt for years, so know all about robust. Some say Ulefone is better - personally I couldn't see the diffference and Amazon had a deal on the WP8, so I bought it and I'm hooked. Massive battery life, water resistant and robust, with some useful tools.

Whats your limit on mileage on a vehicle purchase?
Nonimouse replied to reb78's topic in International Forum
That's because we threw money at the D3's and 4's - really aggressive lease terms The D5's will be a bargain as they are owned, not leased and so ALL the multitude of issues are stealer fixed asap (including the one now on it's seventh turbo!) I've had a few ex Police cars and they have always been good - again they replace stuff when it's needed. My T4 Dub has 260k on the clock. The gearbox is tired, but all in works well -
Peter did warn his regulars about this, a couple of year back

No glue - just b&st7rd tight the first time.

Have you moved the pin on it's circumference at all? There is a diametrically opposite to the 'full boost' scenario

any experience of Kumho MT52 or Hankook MT2 tyres?
Nonimouse replied to Alsace_rangie's topic in International Forum
I've used Hankook RTO1's and then RT03's for years - brilliant tyres. Although the RT03's are flippin noisy at half wear. I now use Falken Wildpeake MT01's . Very, very impressed - like an AT on tarmac; yet oodles of grip off tarmac. And cheap - especially from Paddocks -

Rebuild alomst finished - I really don't like those arches, but the new wheels and tyres make it necessary. Next job is the engineers report for the mods, so it can be MoT'd (ITV)- 31 replies

It's a Mantec snorkel for the D1 Camel - so the only difference between 200 and 300 tdi is a the length of the flexi pipe in the wing D2 was only G4, never Camel

Chassis painting and powder coating options
Nonimouse replied to Retroanaconda's topic in International Forum
An old friend, once told me that the toughest finish for paint, was cheap agricultural enamel, thinned down by 10% with cheap thinners then applied to at least 5 layers. It's what I use to paint diiger buckets, timber winch ground anchors, grab saws, snips and shears and the lower part of the weight box on a 360. The damn stuff is like armour plate -

I have a feeling Nylon powder coating is initially attached to the metal, prior to baking, with an electrical current. This seals the powder onto the metal. -
French/Spanish RRC - where to look to buy?
Nonimouse replied to twodoorgaz's topic in Range Rover Forum
No worries, I'l let him know -
The four vents will blow warm air if the far left horizontal control is down - in the up position they blow fresh air. The right hand horizontal control is windscreen (top); foortwell (bottom) and a mix (central) My 200tdi will produce HOT air on speed one after a couple of miles of driving, at around minus 2 external temps. The joy of stripping the dash out completly (a two day job) allows you to flush out the matrix (or fit a bigger one) and replace anything made of rubber, whilst also fitting sound mat

Shipping to New Zealand - is it even possible?
Nonimouse replied to FridgeFreezer's topic in Getting out and about
My mate Gareth drove to Aus, through Russia, to Vladivostok; as part of his emigration. I rather fancy driving to Vladivostok, then back to Mongolia and down into China, Japan, Indonesia, Australia and back. -
