  1. What he said.. Quite a few vehicles here on the Continent have nothing on the VIN plate but the VIN number. Most Logbooks will state what the various weights are. If the vehicle has a UK registration now, chances are some of the paperwork will have the various weights. Keep a copy of that with the vehicle.
  2. I think the guy said it right. LR does not really care about business users for their products as they have now no longer "commercial" vehicles to sell with the new Disco IV.
  3. Like said before, lift the front axle off the ground, put the axle on stands and start experimenting... It is actually quite common for the steering ralay arms to be fitted at a 90 degree angle when they shouldn't. Soak the various bolt before trying to undo them. Have fun.
  4. Balancing the trailer is a must. And putting up some markers announcing your overhang is wise. And a legal requirement in many cases on the Continent.
  5. Maximum Trailer Dimensions Towing vehicle up to 3500kg GVW Length (excluding the coupling and drawbar): 7.0m Width Maximum: 2.55m (was 2.3m up to 2010) Towing vehicle over 3500kg GVW Length (excluding the coupling and drawbar): 12m (min 4 wheels Width Maximum: 2.55m Length of towing vehicle and trailer combined: 18m Maximum overhang of load from rear of trailer: 3.05m Marking of rear overhang Between 1m and 2m, ensure the end is clearly visible by attaching a piece of cloth or similar. Between 2m and 3.05m, a marker board as defined in the Regulations must be fitted and illuminated at night. If the overhang is more than 3.05m, an attendant must be carried and the police must be notified 2 days before commencing the journey. "Long Vehicle" Marker Plate: Not required for light trailers. These are a legal requirement only for trailers over 3500kg or where the towing vehicle is over 7500kg gross weight. When they are required, different plates are required depending on the length of the vehicle. Details can be found in the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations, Schedule 18. Loads must not project more than 305mm either side of the trailer, up to a maximum width of 2.9m. Loads over 2.9m in width are classed as abnormal loads and the police must be notified two days before a journey commences. Recommended maximum height: 3.0m high or 1.7 times the wheel track. (horizontal distance between centre lines of tyre treads). There is no legal requirement, but this is an accepted guideline. If however the height does exceed 3.0m then a notice giving the height details must be displayed in the cab of the towing vehicle. (Only buses are subject to a maximum height regulation). http://www.ntta.co.uk/law/law/dimensions.aspx
  6. Talk to Paul and let the pound work for you. http://www.psp-expeditioncampers.com/product/267/0/pspdak110.html He speaks English and the quality of the conversion is very, very good.
  7. Get some mesh in or you'll regret it later.. Even chicken wire stuff helps a lot. It is relatively cheap, makes the concrete so much stronger and if you make some pictures while building you can show you're a serious man when it comes to construction. Over the years, we used a lot of concrete for various projects, both in Holland and France, and this is what we're building at the moment here : Yes : a 13 x 6 x 3.5 mtrs. ABRI We have poured a 7-10 cm. thick floor. Overkill for horses but in the futere, when selling the place, machinery etc. will be no problem. Steel armouring is very important. to get a strong floor. This is what we do. And no, this is not the new workshop - this is just for the horses.... The next project is another ABRI like this, just 2 x times al long : 26 mtrs long, 6 mtrs. wide and 2.8 mtrs. high. for firewood, Land Rovers, trailers and hay storage.. Eventually, the workshop will be 14 x 9 x 4 mtrs - including a 4 poster ramp we'll partly sink in the floor for easier access to the engine bay etc.....
  8. Interesting.. You expect a bit more power ? .. or just another source for the turbo's. What vehicles are those turbo's in ?
  9. Don't think we're part of the potential buyers group... With the D IV they've sort of left their roots behind.
  10. For what it is worth, my findings for many years with spacers.. - wider track could give better stability - wider track can give a netter turning circle - wider track can create space for wider tyres - wider track gives to some people a better look to the vehicle - we have not had problems on different vehicles with them after many, many miles However.. - as the leverage on the various components increases one can expect more wear - as the leverage on the various components increases one can expect mechanical failure to come earlier - it is of the utmost importance that the spacers are up to the job - we use Kensons in Wednesbury - the legal side is often somewhat "grey" as fitting them changes the track width from standard and this could lead to problems with Police, insurance, MOT etc. - In many countries they are banned. Same applies to changing offset to rims. Make your choice..
  11. What happens when passing the Equator going South ? Will this upset the paint...
  12. V8's love LPG. If the vehicle runs on petrol it is most likely to be an LPG issue. If the vehicle runs poorly on both petrol and LPG you have other problems. Before getting the engine run on LPG it should run perfectly on petrol. Afterwards, you can get the engine to run on LPG. Bon Courage !
  13. Very nice ! Very good quality build - impressive. And inspirational for the project in the workshop right now... Please keep them coming.
  14. No go into France I'm afraid. Love to have one of these.. Hope new owner does a good job.
  15. It waaay simplifies things saying that Wolfs are good. Several have had a hard life and some have been abused - get once of those and your ... We have a working Ninety that never lets us down, goes everywhere and does everything we ask and more. However, it doesn't look pretty. But for going 4,000 miles with a trailer to collect a dead motorbike it was perfect. Like said above, it comes down to looking after the vehicle and the quality of parts etc. used. And we have both 200 / 300 Tdi / LT77 / R380's and both have their pro's and cons. Happy hunting.
  16. What he said - full double service. We have stopped using auto boxes for towing as they just don't seem to like it.
  17. Can be a lot of things... UJ riding bumps stops springs etc.. DonĀ“t overload / get a trailer
