  1. Good point. For me, I have just started a major overhaul on a '62 vehicle which and had the chassis welded, blasted & galvanized in the early '90s. No rust, no problems, nothing. Like the galvanized bulkhead it was a good investment. Hope to be cremated in the vehicle so to me, I see added value for the galvanizing etc. But it is a very personal thing.
  2. What the man says. I have a HD chassis sitting outside that awaits modification before being dipped. No sense in not galvanizing it when you are doing a swap. Depending on where you live, there are legal issues to consider so going to Marsland / Richards or the likes and getting one with an invoice is something to consider.
  3. Nice one Mike - any more info / pics ?
  4. All is down to how far you wanna go really... We have fitted a Series III in a Defender with VDO programmable speedo, the Hybrid had a all in one type kit car thingie for a while. Fitting the central Series II type should not be that difficult. Hope to see it late this year !!
  5. Merci Beaucoup. Nice stuff - but the fuses are the mini type and you need to make the wiring very neat to get it all in there. We used these - but it doestake up a lot of space compare to those panels.
  6. Feel lucky to have a good supplier (Causeway4x4) in the UK who gets me what I want and the quality I need. No, he's not the cheapest but I know what to expect from him and he delivers. In time. To France. E-Bay is a mess...
  7. In short : Don't. You are going to have a lot of problems you don't want, need or can afford. Get a truck and load onto it and be legal.
  8. Very, very Well Done !!!! Looking at the videos etc. it was indeed a very wet event. You did very, very well and can be very proud. Looking forward to hear more.
  9. Budget is more the limit than anything else. Many options there..
  10. This has been for me a very good source of information : with this : We've been building looms etc. for loads of vehicles and so far no complaints...
  11. To "me a "no brainer" really.. Galvanize it.
  12. Talk to the "Hobbit" - he knows his winches...
  13. Yes - the JB stuff is good. Hi Brian !
  14. Mike, the 1.60 as shown on my above pic weighed in without the awning for 98 Kgs. The 110 never really showed it in it's handling but the Ninety did... 2 side by side 1.40 roof tents fit very nice on a 110 - several clients have this set up - and like you they need to reassure children now and then. The side windows can be opened and are large enough for children to crawl through if need be. It also gives quite a bit of space under the tents on the side.. One family had a full length (and I mean : full length...) 130 roof tent made for them and it slept 6 easily on top. Brownchurch is always considering making something "one-off" for you..
  15. Forgive the additional question, but Arjan, I notice you appear to have trimmed your brownchurch rack. I was hoping to mount mine within the rack frame, is this not possible? The Hannibal we had was the 1.6 mtrs. wide one. This one will not fit inside the Brownchurch - if opening over the rear or front it is wider than the Land Rover... I was not happy cutting the Brownchurch but I had no choice. Event. sold the tent & roofrack to a 110 owner who is still using it as I made it. The 1.40 mtrs. version does, AFAIK, fit inside the Brownchurch. However, there is very little space left for other stuff in that case. FYI : the tent came on 2 roof bars - the First Four ones - and I was told the seller never had problems. Build as I am, I decided I needed to have something a bit more sturdy, hence the Brownchurch. This season, I'll be using a rebuild Hard Shell RTT but eventually go for a Home Build Pop Up roof.
  16. Size matters but with the size the weight goes up. The big Hannibal and officially it sleeps 4. We found 2 adults are fine but that is just us. I suggest you consider getting 2 "smaller ones" as it gives a bit privacy, you can leave one home when not needed and you don't have to open over the side. Buy the best you can afford - quality does vary.
  17. Richards will stamp for "export". If you get the new chassis with an invoice from the manuf. - like Richards - you can legally swop the chassis. Contact likes of DVLA / VOSA for your correct procedure. Some countries require you to keep the part from the old chassis with the # in it. I'm quite sure the seller will be able to inform you how to do this officially - you're not the first to do it.
  18. Hydraulic pot type one en route - Hi-Lift or trolley jack in the workshop.
  19. Hmm.... These trailer lights on the dash work on a totally perfect electrical system and correct relay. We have repeater lights on the trailers as we do not trust the thing in anything Land Rover. You can try to find the source of the problem but it could turn out to be a long hunt...
  20. We have both the "safari" and the "mantec" type. Both modified to be not connected when not needed - only when we think it is going to be "a wet day" We did away with the seal(s) and have a tested waterproof connection with a hose going all the way from the top of the RAI to the airfilter house. The Hybrid had a home build one but will get something new - rather more solid - when the conversion is finished. MAke sure the RAI is 100 % waterproof where need be. Otherwise forget it and be careful.
  21. Yes - please put as much up as you like !! Love to hear the stories & see pics
