Classic Defender Reimagined - From LR News update

While the new Defender continues to win awards and accolades, its iconic predecessor is about to gain a fresh lease of life. Land Rover has given off-road performance specialists Bowler Motors a licence to produce a limited edition based on the classic Defender 110 Station Wagon. The first vehicle co-developed between Special Vehicle Operations and Bowler, it will feature those time‑honoured body panels underpinned by Bowler’s rally-proven CSP high-strength steel chassis and powered by Land Rover’s potent 575PS 5.0-litre Supercharged V8. Inside, the classic Defender’s spartan interior makes way for four sports seats, a roll cage and comfort features such as air conditioning. Price for the Bowler Defender is expected to be around £200,000

Well all these projects show that there is more disposable money around than ever.

Covid times are bearable if you have money but not if you haven't. I don't, but I would not begrudge anyone who bought one of these!

I am disappointed about the the ON road bias though even if it is just a mock-up.

Slightly ironic - thats starting to look like a Grenadier... :popcorn-and-drink-smiley-emotic

Nah it's nowhere near as fugly, the Grenadier looks like a Chinese knock-off of several different 4x4's all glued together.

I still dislike the air-con grille front ends though, just use the vent flaps like... oh they've deleted them

As Ralph says its on bowlers own chassis and cage, so saying its 'based' on the 110 is a misnomer. The doors, roof and windscreen frame are I think the old pieces that would be 'standard' parts.

I wouldn't say its more onroad biased than any other station wagon Defender. If you want a more offroad biased one, then get the bulldog!

Looks like it's made of cardboard ! I'd be a bit miffed if I'd paid all that money to find I could have made one from weetabix boxes.

Perhaps it's one they made earlier ? 😬

At least if it's made of cardboard it'll probably be lightweight! Wading could be an issue though 🤔

Bulldog comes with LRs acclaimed mono turbo V6 diesel.

That's the one that is acclaimed with spinning main bearings and snapping cranks in standard tune then!

I know, that's crazy.  I was contemplating replacing my old 110 with a Discovery 3, until I looked into that little problem.  You'd have to be barking mad to attempt that on a budget!  Still, people who can afford a new Bowler can probably live with that slight worry.
