Popular Post JeffR
Refurbing a defender heater box and dash means raving about 1.3million dinky little rusted self tapers. Usual method involves, optimistically, trying a new screwdriver, which promptly strips out the philips/posidrive/torx hole... then resorting to angle grinders/violence and anglo saxon and skinned knuckles. Mentioned to a mate who restores E types (yes I do hate him) and he recommended these: so I bought the smallest ones (circa £15 off the bay of E) expecting them to be misspelled cyprinid fish (Carp....), was I veers wrong. They're flaming brilliant. Jaws are hard as hell and they grip harder than a politician grips their wallet. Definitely worth a punt 5
FridgeFreezer
I've found that good quality screwdrivers/bits make a huge difference too - Wera / Wiha (etc) have some very nicely done ones with lasered grippy tips and generally made of high-grade stuff that won't wear or chew up.
JeffR
WERA are definitely the best at the moment (look at their Koloss 1/2 inch ratchet, only ratchet i know of with built in hammer head!) but stripped screw heads are still a nightmare to deal with. over the years I've tried way too many wonder tools for removing them. these pliers really do the job if access is ok
Badger110
Am I missing something or don’t mole grips do the same job?

Mole grips chew up the head, these ones have jaws machined to grip in the direction of undoing.
mickeyw
Well, every day is still a school day! This is the first I've ever heard of such a tool. Something to go on the Xmas present list me thinks. The promo video on the Tube is amusing

Anderzander
That Britania Restorations chap has just recently posted about these a week ago - and restoring a heater box too. I think he calls them Engineers Pliers. He swore by them.

FridgeFreezer
An entire 7 minute video about a tool and he never once shows how it works or what's different about it compared to regular pliers...

That encapsulates why I can never be enthusiastic about these amateur video makers. To keep watching a lot of them reminds me of the phrase about needing to kiss a lot of frogs before finding a prince (or princess). Perhaps we are being unfair, and should just refer back to the initial post by JeffR 🙂 Edited to say that, after more searching, there seem to be two sizes. This website from a Sheffield UK retailer appears to offer both, contains multiple images of both sizes, and a dimensioned drawing of one of them, showing the detail FF, and myself, apparently wanted. simonr
Ooooh! I must have me some of them! I've ordered a set now. Looks like an ideal Xmas prezzie for other nerdy Engineering friends!

That's a bit harsh. Mike's videos are beautifully 'amateurish' and capture, in real time, the many tasks and challenges that we face. JeffR
I ended up buying both the small set and the bigger ones, removing the nasty little screws on dash board heater plenum (have you seen the dust n stuff that builds up in there!) became a pleasure. Now tempted by the mole grip version......

Also a real opinion and description of your use would be valuable. I was in Mutley mode again today when trying to undo the screws holding the P clips for the wiring loom to the rear crossmember. I am not sure how good these would have been though as the screws were a pozi flanged pan head, so the edges were very thin and tight to the P clip - I even struggled getting the chisel under the edge! Stellaghost
As requested @Mossberg not used them as yet but will be used for what they are intended for regards Stephen
Mossberg
Many thanks Stephen. From that I can see where the grip will come from. I can see where a similar grip on mole grips would be useful.
