L19MUD
RS components do a huge range - should be able to find something suitable there https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/pneumatics-hydraulics/pneumatic-cylinders-actuators/pneumatic-piston-rod-cylinders/ 2
Stellaghost
Thanks for that, will have a look but suspect I will end up ringing them as I want a cylinder that's single acting normally out so that when it operates it pulls in and has a spring return, not that it should need one due to the internal spring on diff, it would also need to be slimline to attach to diff nose regards Stephen
muddy
The half shaft and hub seals can be a nightmare to keep sealed just a heads up to make sure everything is sitting square and snug. you do not want contaminated portal oil!
Stellaghost
Looking at steering components at the moment Due to swapping diff position and Unimog steering arm on the wrong side for me going to have to swap sides with arms and alter track rod receiver taper angles Steering castings as is with swapping sides going to have to Mill a flat onto casting flat milled and normal side bolted on to find angle Swapped side bolted on to see where angle is Quite a bit of difference... out comes the heat Set up so arm does not bend down Near enough, track rod end will take up slight difference Arm cleaned up and blended Fitted Still have bump stops to weld on, the other side will be more awkward but that's for another day regards Stephen

CwazyWabbit
They look forged to me, the parting line would be crisp on a casting (hard to tell on yours as it's been ground but it looks more like a forging shear line) and the chips when you milled the flat don't look like those from a casting to me, but I could be wrong. The grind marks on the arm in the photo must be from new as I haven't touched that one as yet, but I see where your coming from Just read a bit of literature on differences between cast and forged, forged is generally 36% stronger than cast, so I would say you are most likely right regards Stephen
uninformed
If LR were forging parts for a little Land Rover, good chance Mercedes forged bits for Mogs.
Anderzander
I would think it’s a safe assumption that the Unimog just went with the strongest option - they seem to have with everything else.

Stellaghost
Straightened the other side up this morning then tried track arm, I now thing track arm is too low, I reckon it could go up another inch or so what do you guys think looks a tad low and unprotected by the axle also removed steering damper arm as not in the right configuration now on a side note I'm trying to source some m16x1.5x80 stainless cap head bolts, any ideas no joy on the net as yet regards Stephen
Anderzander
Doesn’t look low to me 🤷🏻♂️ Particularly considering how much ground clearance you will have - plus it’s massive.
bishbosh
Make sure you check the track rod at full lock if you haven’t already. From the photos it looks absolutely fine from a height perspective. Edited November 9, 2021 by bishbosh

uninformed
Not only will track rod clearance change at full lock, but also cross articulation. Check fully articulated and swing lock both ways.
