Doug must have turned up in a different vehicle when he came to mine then - massive 2500 Cummins Dodge Ram!

It was about 10 years between visits.

and Steve only saw 4 mog wheels and tyres in the back of my 1.6 Astra and thought poor car…..he wasn’t around to see nearly a complete set of 404 axles in bits stuffed in there😂

Sadly, in this modern day, few folk know what a bearing scraper is...  It brings me joy to see you have two (I only have one)

I have a couple of larger ones as well, they were just handy to photo, agree with  your sentiments, its a bit of a dying skill these days regards Stephen

these axles will be good . pretty sure the warranty there portals for 46" tyres and high bhp

It's been done a few times, LR even did it themselves, but I'd be fairly surprised if you can bolt portals to a LR axle and guarantee anything.

these are not bolt on portal boxes.  these are complete portal axles . they are based on dana 70 axles I believe

Some info on the boxes here:

Which actually represents fairly good value for money.

No idea on the D70 based stuff, but not going to be this side of 20K by the time you have finished.

there bolt on portal boxes are not a bad price tbh .

yea pretty sure the portal axles work out near 20k , there's lots of videos on YouTube with trucks running there portal axles

Dana 70 is like a dana 60 but even bigger. it always amazes me when people do stick a portal to the strongest possible diff; where with the portal reduction, A Dana 30 diff would be plenty-similar size to a volvo portal diff.

Daan

depends on what size tyre and how much bhp and how heavy your foot is

I wrote along thing about the load on the diff vs radial torque on the case but looking at their Instagram page they seem to have everything covered by making everything massive and heavy.

OR you could have flipped some ford 9s upside down in spidertrax housings, easier to work on, lighter and modular

ive weighed up the pros and cons of doing this with my Salisbury front and rear axles (which are a d60 centres) in conjunction with a reverse ratio transfer box and it isn’t a good idea…imo Dana axles will not make a better portal axle than what is already available
