Insurance now in vertical climb

Recommended Posts

Are you dealing via the NFU website or talking to your local regional agent, even after my galv chassis fit & conversion of rear drum brakes to disc, my NFU insurance is less than 400 & that's with an agreed value of £12,000 for my '89 110CSW.

Does your postcode attract high premiums generally? If not it must be the engine - could you get a re-quote based on the standard engine just to check?

Or have they got something wrong in the details?

That's just insane - I've just (last week) got a new policy with Heritage for £180, 38yo and no NCB, here in Somerset. I'd DEFINITELY shop around a bit more!

And that price is including a SkyTag GPS tracker for free (you pay for the first year's subscription, but the unit's worth £250 apparently), green laning, off-road events non competitively, all mods etc etc.

Prices did vary a lot though, but worth talking to a few of the obvious 4x4 specialists like Carole Nash, Lancaster, Adrian Flux, and Heritage. Heritage were extremely helpful I must say. A bit slow on sending the actual documents out but they were a bit swamped at the time. I'm waiting to get a valuation for an agreed value cover on it, will be interesting to see what they come back with.

£225 in Bromsgrove, with two no fault accidents in two years (one of which was a write off!)

Good point, I did forget to mention that in my post above, I have two fault accidents in the last 4 years (all reported of course) - one m'cycle which got pinched at 6 weeks old (I'd kill them if I could find them) and my wife bumped into the back of someone who braked suspiciously suddenly out of a roundabout in London.

Used to live in Leicestershire and did have pretty high insurance considering I lived in a little village...

I'm with NFU and its around £500. I think that may be a postcode thing.

I keep thinking of going elsewhere - but I've had to claim 3 times since I've been driving - 2 with NFU and they were utterly brilliant. Looked after me, offered the full value straight off etc.

My experience of other companies is that the whole thing is a battle where they try and do as little and pay as little as possible.

So as it stands, I think I could get it cheaper, but I want a quality product.

Adrian Flux, £105 fully comp on my old 110. Never had to claim though so we'll see.... Oh, and I'm 42 and I haven't got any no claims on this policy (made no difference anyway). NFU were always vastly more expensive than even the next best policy quote, which is a shame as I used to insure a Series 2a with them years ago and they were great.

Mine came through from Lancaster for £650ish for an agreed valuation. A certain hike since last year. Will do the dance with them this week and let you know if I get the price down at all.

Cheers

G

So Lancaster informed me today they cant improve on the quote. Last years insurer is no longer on their books which was £250ish last year. Thats quite a hike. Need to find another agreed valuation broker.......

I got completely cheesed off with Adrian Flux, online the quote was cheap, but every time I phoned them to discuss the quote the price went up a tenner and to this day I'm not convinced that they understood that my 110 has a second immobiliser, a tracker and various other security measures in place!

I never use the comparison jobbies for the Land Rover as it's such a subjective vehicle. It's more legwork but if I hadn't rung around I'd have been spending at least double. I used to use 2gether as they were always very amenable over the phone, and even more likely to give a massive discount if you rang last thing on a Friday afternoon. But they seem to have gotten so big that they just didn't really care any more and the insurance premiums kept going up so I went elsewhere.

Try HIC gruntus... Agreed value is about an extra £15...

Agreed value seems the same across the board.

I didn't use a comparison site: it was on Flux's own site!

I recently spoke to Flux for the FF and the girl on the end of the phone explained that this year their underwriters have put up the premium associated with having multiple drivers.

Luckily the FF is standard so can use comparison sites. Annoyingly it was pretty damn cheap with just me. But then I can't get picked up easily when I go out for a drinky.
