Defender
This is the reply I got from Lloyd Specialist Developments about the Series 3 adapter: We can supply a complete kit to include bell-housing adaptor, flywheel adaptor and spigot bush for £1095 plus postage and VAT. A Land-Rover TDCI clutch kit would cost £143 plus VAT. If you do not already have one, you would also require a Land-Rover Defender TDCI flywheel (single mass). For adapter info there is a diagram of one side here: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thread-Bolt-patterns-flanges-mounts-etc
Defender
Soon as I get a reply I will let you know. Just got to find out about this mt 85 box now... If you do find anything out I'm interested in the MT-85 as well please, as far as I can tell they use the MT-85 front half so maybe this is from the transit the 3.2 engine comes from (Guessing here) and the rear part is MT-82 so it it still connects to the LT230. Muddy neil
So dose the mt-85 have the same bell housing pattern?
Defender
So dose the mt-85 have the same bell housing pattern? Sorry I have no idea. Looking on the Getrag website I can only find one gearbox and that is the 6MTI500 which appears to have been fitted to the Transit and Ford Ranger. http://www.getrag.com/en/products/products.html
milwillfly
Been following this thread with great interest for a while now, engine looks like it has some serious potential! Pretty sure I'm going to ditch my SBC and TH400 and lob one of these into my ongoing project! From what I've managed to find out through trawling the web the 722.6 box from a Ssangyong Rexton or Jeep Grand Cherokee will bolt up with a bell housing swap, then it shouldn't be too difficult to bodge the LT230 to the back of that with a custom spud shaft and a simple adapter plate for a relatively short and strong set up! If the same controller Hoss is using in his build for the gearbox is used then you can also control an he351ve VNT turbo to make a potential 400bhp usable. Anyone see any reason this wouldn't work? Going to start gathering parts soon and see how it goes...
Troll Hunter
OK, you've got 400+ from the motor, a fancy gearbox, and a divorced LT230, so what axles are you using? Mike

Anderzander
Are you going to fit one Ross ?
landroversforever
I have a few options being pondered at the moment. From a few different stables! This being one of the cheaper options!
need4speed
Given that its twin turbo and using monumental amounts of fuel (going by the amount of thick black smoke) im actually surprised it isnt producing more power. Its not just turbo lag causing the smoke as even when you hear it spooled up and revving, its still rolling coal... If a Cummins 6BTA had compound turbos and that amount of diesel being chucked in, it would be making about 1000hp. That being said it will be a little lighter than a Cummins. But who cares about a little weight

Bowie69
You could go for the shorter om605 Ross, 5 cylinder sound then
landroversforever
Another option to explore added to the mental list
Bowie69
It would in all practical ways be a TD5 then I do like a 5-cylinder, but generally a petrol and connected to an Audi
Anderzander
God these are fantastic - 29mpg ! From the F250 - 500 HP and its sounds wonderful ... <contented sigh>
muddychris300tdi
He has a few good videos on YouTube. The F250 has now gone to make room for something bigger and more powerful.
deep
It would in all practical ways be a TD5 then I do like a 5-cylinder, but generally a petrol and connected to an Audi Ssang Yong made a 4WD which sold quite well in NZ. It had a 5 cylinder 2.9 diesel which was Mercedes-based (even had Merc symbols stamped on the castings). Is that the same motor as the Mercedes 5? I have thought for a long time it would be a lovely motor for a Land Rover.
Bowie69
Umm yes sort of, iirc it wasn't made to the same spec as the Mercedes units, and the injection pumps eat themselves at 50k, knocking out the injectors at the same time. A mate had a 'merc' engine in his Kia people carrier that did just this.
tacr2man
That 2.9 "Merc" engine hasnt done a lot for the reputation of mercedes diesels , it was put in quite a bit of stuff , much the same as the VM diesels , with similar results for VM . Challo
Singa Songa Ssang Yong Musso 1996-1999 used Mercedes based OM602 which is a 2 valve per cylinder diesel and out of factory produced a maximum 129bhp in E-class. Mercedes version is well known for it longevity. OM605 has 4 valves per cylinder and produced a maximum of 148bhp and 207lb/ft of torque from factory. Hope this helps. It's not super-likely I'd ever go that route but the future is unpredictable... Actually, the model I was thinking of was a good bit older. A bloke came round in one once to buy some parts. His had done a very decent mileage with no trouble and sounded very sweet. Looked nice and simple too. But let's get back on topic.
