Thats because the UK gov't knows what a pushover the bulk of the public are, so Phoney Blair just sees £££££'s in his eyes that he can screw us for. Any other European country would just down tools and put a stopper in the ridiculous government rules/motions/statistics Maybe we shoud "ban" all the tree huggers from having anything (goods, food, clothing, power etc) that comes from a source that is produced/moved/delivered by internal cumbusioned engines. let them eat nuts & berries, poo into a hole in the ground, and wear animal skins.... ... oh, they won';t wil they? because it'll be cruel to animals, ah well, let them freeze to death then! There was something on the news the other day that said something like if the whole of Britain stopped producing electricity and driving cars tomorrow then in 2 years time the Chinese would have increased their emissions to a level where we would be back to square 1. I remeber a few years ago being overtaken in my 90 by a bloke in a Toybota Amazon down an untreated back road near Alton when there was about 5 inches of snow on the roads. As the bloke went past he flicked me the bird and sped of down the road at about 50 miles an hour which was fine in a straight line but at the end of the straight there is a 90 degree bend and when I got there the pillock had found out why I had been travelling at cautious 25 mph as he had failed to slow his 2 tonne tank down enough to make the bend and was quite nicely stuck in the ditch on the outside of the bend. I was very tempted to leave him there as a lesson, but pulled him out. As he left some what shame faced he was heard to mutter something along the lines of useless jap tank should have coped with the snow as it was a 4x4, which implied to me that he did not realise that his inappropriate speed was actually what caused him to ditch it. Forecast for a sprinkling this afternoon. Seems there's the normal absolute chaos, why can't Brits drive on snow ? My brother lives in Norway and they just get on with it over there, theres no chaos. Mind you they can generally drive much better than we canon the snow, ever seen a Mum in Britain driving kids to school opposite locking the Volvo round every corner !! Why do people think they can just swipe over with the windscreen wipers and the car is ready to go.... Loads of them out there today with peep holes and a stack of snow on the bonnet... Top tip for anyone having the same trouble - if you have a USB hard drive, take it out of the case and stick it in the PC on a spare IDE/SATA port as it will be about 10x faster to scan through it and find files. Only a tiny majority of people have any experience at all of driving in snow and ice- it took me 2 winters in the swiss alps to get any competancy to speak of. 2. It is easy to clear 6 foot snow drifts than 2 inches of snow- snow blowers don't work very well on tiny amounts of snow. 3. Most places that get lots of snow do not have a thaw/refreeze issue- ie it's usually just snow with no ice- it's not snow which melts a bit then re-freezes as a sheet of ice the following nigh 4. Most importantly nobody in the UK uses true winter tyres which make a truly huge difference- the only time i ever had to use snow chains in the mountains was when driving a car on summer tyres- all the other times the winter tyres were far more effctive than chains were, in most conditions anyway! I had a call at 7 this morning from Powys Care Autorities (Powys 4x4 response group) and have spent all morning taking a couple of care workers round the back lanes near Crickhowell. Rang home only to find the vet was coming early to TB test the cattle so rushed home to find the vet stuck on the drive to the farm. I had to drive round the field to avoid him.
