Software engineer with electronics, doing R&D for MOD for last 10 years and some other 'stuff'.

Just moving again though, working with some other people for a while - least it keeps things interesting.

I'm surprised I can have a CV with anything on it.....

For 15 years I have owned and run a company selling till and credit card rolls!

Far last 6 years also had a company that developed software for mobile and wireless workers to accept credit card payment from customers. Did worlds first card payment over GPRS. Unfortunately had to close it down last year :( due to the overhead of keeping pace with ever increasing regulations and lack of foresight in UK investment world. (Anyone want to buy it?) :)

Petrolhead since I was about 12.

Spacecraft Operations Engineer

Here's one of the recent exciting bits:

The rest of the time I try to stop them falling out of the sky... I'm on 24 hour emergency on-call which is a P.I.T.A.

I'd pack it all in to do some sort of metal fabricating (and spend more time in my garage), but I don't have the skilz...

Les - was that at Gatcombe Park? - Me Dad lives next door. :)

Cheers, Al.

Me?

I'm a freelance rigger & stage lighting engineer. Mostly working in theatre but do the odd job in the glorious rock 'n' roll industry as well. Before that I was a student of Chemical Engineering, but packed it in since it was dull.

I'm a Theatre Technician at the Almeida Theatre in Islington, North London.

Prior to this I worked on "The Producers" at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, at other theatres in London and Oxford and, like a bit like forum member "Glue", worked as a freelance production electrician/lampy/rigger.

Only had 2 employers in my 35 years working life. Started with the Civilian MoD, mainly direct fire ammunition, have worked on surface to air defence systems, FF Rockets, C3I, then decided to leave due to not liking the way in which Maggie Thatcher was screwing the Civil Service. Started a Laser cutting and welding company for my bosses in 1987, over the years we have been sold, taken over and now bought back by yours truly. So 2 employers but a lot of jobs.

This is my twentieth year running lasers and also recently waterjet cutting machines and it (fortunately) still gives me a buzz. :D

Vehicle restraint systems, not seat belts, but new build barrier systems to prevent joe public driving into all those nasty new matrix signs, bridges and the other carriageway, or generally protect anything that you don't want to drive into at 70 mph on a motorway

I work in engineering for the biggest bus company in the UK, running workshops in different bits of the country to maintain and repair enough vehicles for full service each morning. The nice parts of my job are playing with cool bits of kit like CRT filters and hybrid buses, and dealing with the shop floor guys who make it all happen. The hardest bits are keeping on top of everthing that comes with being a site manager when I'm in some of the oldest industrial buildings in the UK, and dealing with the shop floor guys who make it all happen!

fa-fradu-hawks.jpg

on a MOD contract for the RN in Cornwall, been on these a/c for nearly 20years, so do know their insides quite well.

bought this one back by road after a bird strike in July 2004, took 4 days to dismantle for loading onto the RAF's specialist transporters.

Police Officer with Thames Valley Police working in a small market town about 6 miles south of Oxford ;)

Superb job, incredibly varied - you literally don't know what is going to come in from one minute to the next. Done some pretty cool sneaky beaky stuff, I'm a pursuit driver which is a good crack, CBRN trained and a Method of Entry Officer, getting into people's places when they'd rather you stayed outside. Also done some incredibly unpleasant, traumatic and upsetting things but that's all part of it.

Just over 4 years in and I'm still to have a day when I don't get excited about work :D
